    Default Photography

I'm looking for a new, creative hobby and I'd like to get involved in the arts. The problem is I don't have any drawing skills whatsoever so I'm thinking photography might be a good choice. Usually when I'm at museums, the photography exhibits are my favorite exhibits so this seems like a logical choice. I don't own a good camera and usually only use my iphone. My father does have a very nice digital camera from Nikon that I could certainly borrow.

Where are some good places online/magazines/books to start my hobby?

I don't really want a digital camera guide so much as a photography guide. Thanks though, I'll check that out once I decide I want to actually buy a camera.

I see, you're actually interested in the techniques etc.

i have accumulated countless of material on the subject throughout the years, but never really like "found" something dramatical in one place.

    try

    and

ars has a fairly active photograhy forum, but its more of a nerds-r-us, so you will find a heck of a lot more than just photography there.

these guys have great podcasts, but its more about how to use some of the more industry standard software

Didn't click on the links, but some things I've learned as an amateur

    1) frame your target

    2) shooting from a low perspective is cool

    ...

    PROFIT!!!

    /haven't actually profited

    Thanks, JS.

Also, if you want to post some of your favorite photographer's work or links here that's cool too.

My buddy does photography as a side-gig, here's his website:

    http://thephotomonger.com/home.html

(his name is Jeff Monger so that's why the website is named what it is)

p.s. our favorite wedding picture was done by him. we paid some schmuck $1500 to take our pictures and the one we like best is from one of my groomsmen. go figure. (this was when photography was just a hobby to him)

    that's a good start.

photo 1 in the climbing section shows that with some subjects, it's hard to get it wrong. This is cool cos it's both a fun climb to do, and photograph...

photo 9 and her hair doesn't normally seem that red (contrast!)

I bought a dSLR (a Pentax K10D) before my travels this year and have been learning slowly. Here are a couple of sites I've referred to a lot:

He just got into photography a couple years ago. Has been taking classes at a local college and is loving it. It's become more than a hobby now --- as was his plan.
