Default So tell me about northern Virginia

I'm considering moving to a few different places and right now northern Virginia is around the top of the list. Southern Virginia seems too much like where I live right now, so fuck that. How far is north VA away from cool stuff? How is Richmond? How is the weather? What's the availability for live poker?

Florida is currently #2 on my list, but it has hurricanes more often which is a major beat.

I'm in Richmond and love it but that might just be my personality. I have a shit load of friends from Northern VA who seem to love it. I agree with Euph about the driving though.

What exactly are you looking for in your new city?

I live in the valley in VA (2 hours from northern VA and 2 hrs from Richmond) and have spent a lot of time in the NOVA area and the Richmond area. It all depends on what you're looking for. Virginia in general is so varied from total bumfuck to major city. The suburbs are generally nice. Traffic sucks around the beltway area. I like the rural areas personally, close to a small city but far enough from traffic and major crime. TBH I live near a pretty big university and think if I ever move I'd choose to live near a university again. Best of luck!

Northern Virginia is not a bad place to live at all. It is a very central location near D.C. and Maryland so there are lots of places you can go without driving too far. There is tons of jobs for young professionals and nightlife to match. D.C. has some underground poker games, and there are tons of college kids that think they can play b/c they saw Daniel Negreanu on teh ESPNzor. There are also many bars throughout the NoVA area that have freerolls (which obv u would not play, but...) which are great places to find fish filled local home games for good stakes. If you wanna play live legit, just jump on 95 North and head up to Atlantic City.

Negatives about NoVA include cost of living (renting or buying), all four seasons (cold snowy winters, hot as !#$@ summers), and traffic (but there is lots of public transportation).
