Default a weak pair ip in 3bet pot

Going through HM I came across this hand. I really can´t remember the dynamic at the time, but I´m usually not 3betting too light unless I have a reason to do so, so consider UTG being around the taglag area. No idea what to make of his donk lead, looking back I suppose fold>>>call>raise. As played, can I ever fold this river?

    $0.5/$1 No Limit Holdem
    4 players
    Converted at weaktight.com

    Stacks:
    CO ($101.20)
    Hero (BTN) ($122.60)
    SB ($104.10)
    BB ($52.75)

    Pre-flop: ($1.50, 4 players) Hero is BTN
CO raises to $4, Hero raises to $12, 2 folds, CO calls $8

    Flop: ($25.50, 2 players)
CO bets $9, Hero calls $9

    Turn: ($43.50, 2 players)
    CO checks, Hero checks

    River: ($43.50, 2 players)
CO bets $17.50, Hero calls $17.50

    This is so situational.

I would raise flop. River, meh, very weird/weak line you took. You could beat a bluff but I don't see him value betting worse, even with the small bet.

when he leads the flop i just feel like he got such a marginal hand like a pair and a draw or something.. and if he has a monster its so easy to fold to a shove

if you raise you call imo

if you make a small raise to $25, his shove will be around pot size and you have just over 33% equity against his shoving range. (overpairs, sets, NFD+overs, if he's looser then it's an easier call)

Me being a 50NL donk, consider this a question and not an implied suggestion.
Why would you ever open your 3-bet range below the range of LAGG player as a counter strategy? The only solid reason I can come up with to widen the 3-bet range range is to get more value out of the cards you get against him and not to make him fold a better hand.
Preflop seems like maybe a reasonable play against a player who folds to 3-bets too much.
If he is that aggressive you will get a lot of value out of your good hands since he fully expects people to play back at him weaker than they would usually.
Plus it's short handed and you got position on him 3/4 hands, so you'll play plenty of more pots with him where you can get it in with way the best of it.
The strengh of a hero is defined by the weakness of his villains.

    thanks guys.

as for raising the flop, do you think our hand is weak enough to bluff him here? He´s either inducing or trying to get me off overcards with something weak, he´ll probably try to get his med hands to sd. Raising takes away all of our sd value when we could see a turn with top pair ip. Im way off often enough, comments appreciated.

oskar: Im not "widening" my 3betting range to 97o, vs someone who is opening loose but responding tight to 3bets Im 3betting more polarized. Im not 3betting 97o+, but basically keep my value range fairly tight and add some junk.
