Default Home Confinement... playing poker for the next year

Allright so here is my dillema. I have been in and out of trouble for the past oh i say 7 years. I go to court on Friday May 22nd @ 9am to find out how I will be spending the next year of my life. My probation officer is requesting that I spend the next year in Home cofinment. The judge could easily make me spend that in the slammer. Oh well I have come to terms with this. The reason that I am posting this on a poker website is because I love poker. I began playing about 3 or 4 years , and so far I am a break even player. I have one decent score of 5900 dollars for a 2nd place in the Full Tilt 50-50. That has made me about even money with all the drunken balls of steel moments (bluffing off 200 dollar stacks with 22 on ascary board lol). My sharkscope is funny. I am a winning player except for a couple of nights I played drunk and lost close to 2 grand (Check my graph) lol. Overall my online poker career has been break even. I would like to get a lot better and I will more than likely I will be spending the next year locked up in an apt with nothing really to do except watch Tv, Online Poker, and P90X. So I think I am going to chronicle my online poker adventure as well as vent from time to time on my life. I think with the help of a forum I may be able to overcome the break even status and climb the ranks. Wish me luck on Friday, if I make it through I will start my posting as soon as possible. Any and all help will be appreciated over the course of the next year and lets see where I end up. If I dont post sometime after Friday then you should assume that I am locked up for a little while. So fingers crossed I will talk to you soon.

    Default Off I go

Allright, In exactly 18 hours I will know my fate. I have been thinking and I am going to deposit 50 bucks in a full tilt acct, and 50 bucks in a pokerstars acct. I have no exact plan on what games to play or what way to boost the bankroll, but I am preprared. Thanks for the support.

New paragraph...jk. I will make sure and post some hands for discussion asap That is if I am here tomorrow am. Talk at you soon.

it's tough to root for a guy, and see that you picked the wrong time to get behind him. Hopefully he gets out on good behavior and straightens his shit out.

So I assume the news on Friday was bad then??
  13. #13

    Default HELL YEAH!!!

So Here is the deal. I just walked out of jail this am. I walked into court on Friday am. I had my family, my gf, and my boss all with me. My lawyer and I walked up when the judge said she was readyto hear my case. I am facing a violation of probation and I have seen this judge a few times in my life. I sit down and the case begins. It goes back and forth between my lawyer and the proscuter and my Probation officer and the Judge. Then out of the blue the judge call a meeting in her chambers. GREAT I am thinking. I now this judge and I know that she is pretty serious when it comes to violations.
After the meeting in her chambers my lawyer walks back into the courtroom and gived me the look of death I have exactly 1 year left on probation so I know that the worst case scenario i am getting sentenced to one year in county. The cse continues and my boss comes and speaks on my behalf as wel;l as my prents. Emotionally my parents speaking was pretty rough. I am not gonna lie when your mother says these great things about you in front of a judge it makes you feel like Shit. I felt like I really let them down this time. Well The judge look me square in the eyes and starts to yell!! She tells me she knows I have problems and she knows that I need help but I screwed up big time this time.
Sentencing. Nervous. She looks at me and says we are taking you into custody. *%@*!. Is exactly what I thought. However I have to except the consequences of my actions. The she proceeds. Its memorial day weekend and I am gonna hold you until we can get you on home confiment. GREAT!!. I spent 5 days in the slammer and I am out. Know its time to spend the rest of my days on home confinement working the bankroll up. Wish me luck, now its time to start posting hands and getting advice.

Good stuff, hopefully this is a life-changing event and you will be a better person because of this.

    Good luck!

Damn man. I just read this and that's pretty crazy. So lucky she let you out of a year in jail. A few of my friends have been in and out of jail and that shit sucks.

Congrats on not having to go into the slammer and I really hope you will straighten your life out after that. You not only owe it to yourself to be straight from now on, but also to your mom. Imagine what you're putting her through as well.

Make sure you read up on the Beginner's Digest cause it has a lot of good info. You're never too advanced to review the fundamentals. Let us know how the journey goes.
    OP: Beginner to Master

If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".

Sportbike good luck to ya in both your poker battle and lifes battles as well. I am assuming you are a young man and you should have a long prosperous life ahead. It would be so encouraging to follow this op and watch you grow as a poker player. More importantly though I would really be nice to hear how you are working on the "Big picture" and how you are growing as an individual.
Normally I wouldn't think it others business but you have opened the door. And as I am sure you know having been through the courts once the defense opens the door it is free game! So please keep us posted on more than poker.
One quick question I have is what is your plan for bankroll management? Seems you are going to have an ideal scenario in which to truly prosper if you do the "Whole program" correctly and it has to start with proper bankroll management. I gotta believe if you play your cards right you could turn the next year into a pretty amazing bankroll. How about outlining your list of goals such as:
    *My bankroll management plan is...............
*I plan to play x number of hours and study x number of hours
*I am going to read x number of poker books per week
    *I will post HH's every...............

Just a suggestion since you have plenty of time on your hands to really knuckle down and do this right.
I look forward to following your journey!

ps: if you ever want to talk about your run ins with the law and get a perspective of the other side hit me up I have a bit of knowledge on the subject.

I think that is a great suggestion. I will post my goals when I finish up playing these quick tourney's. This is going to be a great vent for me. Almost a journal in a sense. Do you have any suggestions on software that I should use to track my stats? I have used pokertracker3 on a trial but it wasnt very user friendly in my sense.

Yeah, I like HEM a lot more than PT3. I think the biggest thing you need to do is write goals and practice strict bankroll management. You don't need to take shots and win hundreds of dollars within the next week. Take it slow, play small stakes, and slowly turn your life around.

Default Update on Life and Poker

First I think I need to say that I might be writing this for myself. I have been running into serious road blocks as far as poker is concerned. It has taken me a couple of months to really get a hold of the game now. I still haven’t had a serious cash as far as a tourney is concerned a few small one here and there. The game of poker changes so often and reading different posts and trying different things has helped a little. For some reason I can’t seem to concentrate deep in tourney. I get bored or complacent.
The reasons I can’t focus must be numerous but I think it boils down to the Home Confinement. When I played poker before (even when it was my job for a few months) I could really focus on tourney. I think my strength was that after a few hours people that I was playing tend to crack and yet I could keep playing my game. No matter what the field size I was always a solid player. I would continually go deep in tourney’s that I played and felt that my game was improving as a whole. A big outlet during that time for me was going to the gym. Working out really helped my poker game and concentration. Being stuck in my house all day is really driving me crazy. I think that it is not only making my poker worse but making my life worse as well.
I have to go to court for the new charges in the next month or so. We waived my arraignment which was last Friday. So know it is a waiting game. My lawyer said that I am not going to get sentenced to 2 years. I am more than likely going to serve 30 days or so and then probation, comm. Service, ect… So things are looking up, and on a side note I haven’t drinkin a drop of booze since the last arrest. It has not been that hard but I have been locked away. So wish me luck on that.
Allright well I made some posts about online prop betting which might keep me entertained during some of the longer tourneys. I have prob dropped right at $350 bucks on various websites trying to start a bankroll but I continually play too large tourneys. I like to say I am running bad right now, which to toot my horn for a sec I haven’t won a race like KK vs AQ on a while. That’s when I am holding KK. Anyways I think things are getting better I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I still love poker 

Quick Update too whats going on in my world. One could say this si a brag or what ever. After donking away a hundred bucks origionally. I declared that I SUCK at poker. BUt my competitive neature took over and I decided to put one last 50 dollars on the acct. It dropped to 7 dollars and I realize that yes I suck at poker. However, I began playing cash games and ran good for a day or 2 and pushed the BR to 25 dollars. Then IO started multitabling low stakes cash game and pushed the BR to 200. Yesterday I finally had a decent cash in a tourney for $320. So current BR is $500ish. Go Me

Life Blows Sometimes... So I decidedto sit at a 1/2 table massively underolled for this and of course I eneded up getting it all in Ak vs KK. There goes 200 bones. All the work that I put in over the past couple of months grinding small stakes and pushing the BR to 500 was for Nothing. Guess Ill haev to continue the long trek to mid stakes again!!!!!!!!!!

You're a frickin dickhead and suck bigtime.

Ok now we got the unpleasentness outta the way . You've been blessed in that you managed to escape the jail sentence and your punishment in a way is as much boredom and isolation rather than locked doors slamming shut.
You have an opportunity now to do what many of us would love to do and sit back , step out of the outside world and focus 100% on improving as a poker player. Take this opportunity , relish it , work hard at it , devote yourself to it. By doing so and really focussing and applying yourself you have the opportunity to turn your whole life around.
Learn how to be sensible, and diligent , to exercise self control and how to discipline yourself to making correct decisions. Realise how the adrenaline rush of living on the edge destroys everything that you are trying to achieve not only in your poker but in your real life as well. When you can accomplish this , you need have no fear of winding up back in jail.

So first step to changing the rest of your life , get back in the micro cash games and start taking the slow and steady road to success by grinding your ass using proper bankroll management . post your target bankroll before you are going to move up and your stop loss at which you move back down and stick to it. Even if it feels hard and boring , stick to it ......this is where you will learn the self discipline and self control that will change the rest of your life.
  32. #32
I guess I'll just make this short since Keith covered it. I don't know what its going to take for you to understand this but perhaps reading the same articles about it over and over again will help:

    Bankroll Management.

Your edge in the game can be huge, but without a proper roll, you're destined to lose. If you can't get your head around this, you need to study this more, read about variance etc, understand why you shouldn't play underrolled. And lastly, find out what feelings or events drove you to play above your head and work on them.

Please turn things around, we want to see you succeed. Bankroll Management is the only answer. Good luck.
  33. #33
Why should you follow bankroll management? I've had some ideas on the subject.

I agree with IRC because I'm not like going to write a hudge post in your blog about how retarded you are for failing at life like this

but in IRC I get the satisfaction of berating you in real time and you might actually figure out how to stop failing at life

What is the IRC?? and on a second note this is directed to Keith MY current Br is back to $350... So what stakes do you think I should be playing? I prefer to play 6 tables at a time, and have been buying in for 10 dollars on the 25 NL tables.

What drove me to another epic bankroll dump. Well I can think of about nine million reasons, but I will focus on one. Boredom!! I was bored. I wanted my heart to beat a little faster, or I felt like I needed to be punished. Its not so much that I cant compete with these guys at the larger stakes. It is however true that when my Ak runs into KK and I lose they will insta rebuy and I will Yell at the top of my lungs &%@#!@#!!.

I could just be rambling and maybe you get my point that there is no hope but dont give up. I just took down the FTR500 a couple of night ago so its a good BR boost. Hopefully we wont be having the same convo in the near future.
