Default How to read players at 5NL 10NL and maybe 25NL

Alot of people ask me when I post hands "what was their range?" or "are they tag or lag?" or some people simply have no reads on players at these levels because they dont stay at the tables for hours.

I've come up with a way to get some type of a read on them. And I'm posting it here for critique. If I'm against an unknown villain in a hand and he makes an aggressive play, and I have no read whatsoever.. I will do a search on that player to see how many tables he is playing. If he is playing multiple tables at 5NL the I can assume he has a knowledge of ABC poker and I can put him on a range based on preflop play.

HOWEVER, a lot of times I will see the player is playing just one table. These are players I will assume are donks 95% of the time because who has the patience to play 1 table of 5NL.. only casual players do and their range is 72o+.

Anyway I do this in situations where I'm stumped. What do you think

Reading players are all about having an excellent memory.

Sometimes I talk with regs about a hand we have played several months ago- often they do not even remember it! Try and remember all the details: how many seconds do he think with a strong hand/weak hand, how has he played draws in the past, how did he size his bets in different situations, which lines does he likes with different hands etc ad infinitum.

    Soak it in!

At peak performance the human brain is much more powerful than any HUD.

I think it's best to assume a player is tight, ABC until you get real reads and data to the contrary. It's much better to pass on a hand or error to caution because you don't have a read than it is to take a chance and be wrong. As Steve Danneman said at the WSOP - folding to a raise is only a small mistake.

I play 1-2 tables sometimes before I add more, and I'm a 13/10 nitty tag running 10BB/100+. But when I only play 1 table does that mean I'm a donk?
And if you don't have a HUD I strongly suggest gettng one. It will help with assigning ranges. You'll also find that not all multitablers are the 'standard ABC type'. Alot of them are just as bad as others playing 1 table. For example, I know of a player in my database that is 15/0/.7 over 650 hands. That's right, he hasn't raised once at all in over 600 hands, and he's playing multiple tables. That's not 'standard' poker.

IMO counting the number of tables someone plays is no where near as accurate as taking notes on what hands they play from different positions. That is the easiest way to define someones range, just write down what hands they play and how the play them.

Getting a HUD or identifying what types of players are at your table does no good if you don't know how to attack those styles and the ranges associated with them.

Are there any HUDS that work with Carbon and Victor Chandler?

HUD is a powerful addition, but not a substitution for good reads.

You are right about multitablers- they are often taggy/tappy. But as someone said this is an inaccurate tell- although all information is good.

Ahem. Yeah what stacks said. What you're doing is making assumptions and wishful thinking based on irrelevant information. Just because someone plays multiple tables doesn't make them a TAG or anything else. I can understand where you're coming from but I wouldn't rely too much on it. Get a HUD.

I think you should try thinking about the game instead of just asking every question that crosses your mind.

    1st, 72o+ is not ATC. It's 23o+.

2nd, if they just call pre and they're a donk then their range is pretty wide. You can still read Rentons ABCD link and figure out what hands they're likely to call with, which they're likely to fold, etc.

If you can't handle playing hands while you're learning the game then either watch random tables or start going through the archives reading old posts.

You are annoying, you have a shitty attitude, and I don't think you'll ever be successful at poker because you want everything spoon fed to you.

After smoking a bit of bud I decided to rewrite this and not stoop to your level. I legitimately like poker and I am trying to improve. It's even more fun for me when I get better and start winning and having results.

If you don't like looking at my threads or don't want to answer my questions, then I have a really simple solution for you: DON'T.

Plenty of other good people to get advice from on here who were once in my position.

First let me say if I am in correct then I apologize right up front!

Wasn't it you who just the other day made the comment you've never been pwned by a multi-tabler? I am totally confused so now you respect their play?

Again if I am wrong I am sorry!!! If I am right then WTF

Nooo. Never said I've never been owned but I did say I can manipulate them easy because they all play in the same mechanical way.

So that means if I put them on a range that hits the flop and they bet it strong, I will respect their bet and fold with a lesser hand.
