Mark Meloche opened with a raise from middle position to 55,000 with Niklas Toorell making the call on the button.
They took a heads-up flop of and Meloche led out with a bet of 60,000. Toorell made the call and the hit the turn.
Meloche fired again for 125,000 and Toorell again flatted in position to see the complete the board.
Meloche made it three barrels with a 150,000-chip bet and Toorell went into the tank. He emerged with the quietly spoken "I'm all in". Meloche jumped from his chair but he wasn't happy about it, eventually finding a frustrated fold.
Meloche is back where he started the day with 970,000, as Toorell is now up to 1.65 million.

Benjamin Statz and Mark Meloche got involved in a hand and we picked up the action on the turn with the board reading 998T. There was about 300,000 in the pot. Statz checked and Meloche fired 150,000. Statz check-raised to 550,000. Meloche reraised all in for 1.53 million and Statz called.

Statz held the A9 and Meloche the Q9.

The river completed the board with the K and Meloche hit the rail. Statz improved to 4.7 million.

    Doesnt say what place...like 70th?

Good run meloche, 94k isnt 8mil, but its still nice

Kingnat probably does karmically owe you about 8.9 mil in equity. With a good lawyer, I'm sure you could re-coop upwards of twice that.

So I'm gonna do my best to sum up my run in the main event. I have a feeling I won't remember stack sizes or blinds very well but I'll try to remember as many details as I can. Not gonna get too much into my thought process on specific hands but if you're desperate to know why I did something you can ask.

    Day 1:

I showed up to my table about 10 minutes late or so and was the last one to arrive. That usually means I had a pretty good table but it wasn't really true in this case. I had the best seat at my table for sure but I'm pretty sure it was below average as far as the main event goes. I had two weaker players to my right but other than that the rest of the table was filled with pros and people who weren't completely giving it away.

The main event has an amazing structure. You start with 30k chips @ 50/100 with blinds going up every 2 hours. I played pretty aggro in the first level including 2 triple barrel bluffs that got picked off. No real damage though pretty sure I ended the level with 29k or so. Early in level 2 I won a few pots and ran my stack up to 40k. Including a hand where I called a raise otb multiway with Ac7c and triple barrelled when checked to on a 77866. I lost a few pots after that and ended the level back at 25k. The only hand I remember from that downswing was I opened AJo from the co and a crazy euro 3 bet. I called flop was A10x, He cbet I called turn was a King and he over bets setting up an under pot sized river shove and I folded turn. So after level 2 I have like 25k or something.

Level 3 was pretty uneventful from what I remember. Blinds were 150/300 at this point and I think I was just pretty card dead and finished the level with 19k going into the 90 minute dinner break.

Within 10 minutes of coming back from dinner break theres an utg open flatted by mp and co I flat 44 otb and bb calls as well. Flop is 41010 with a fd. Checked to me and I bet BB c/r's other two fold I call. Turn blank and he jams, I call and hold vs A10. Nice little cooler there gets me up around 40k. Nothing memorable happens for another hour or so when the following hand happens. Weak tight player to my right opens utg I flat with QQ everybody else folds except for BB. Flop is Q76 rainbow. UTG cbets 2 times the pot lol, I flat BB folds. Turn 4 and UTG insta jams for like twice the pot (I have him covered barely). I probably took the longest time to call an all in with top set in my career but I was just so shocked that I did a bit of a double take to check that I actually had top set then called. ( probably took 20 seconds but it felt like a lot longer in my head) Anyways he has AA and I hold. So now I have like 80k or so and generally feeling pretty good about myself with 1 hour left in the day. (we played 4.5 levels on day 1 for some reason)
So I come back from break and don't really play any interesting hands until this one. MP opens (same guy who called me 3 streets earlier in the day on the 77866 board) new player otb calls I call in sb with two black 9's bb folds. Flop was 853 with 2 clubs. Mp cbets bu calls I call. Turn Jd check check check. River is the 3 of clubs completing the flush. I decided to make a thin vb and bet a little more than half pot. Mp calls button folds and I'm good. I win some small pots after that and finish day with 97k which is well above the average of 42k.

    Day 2:

Show up to my day 2 table where the only person I recognized was Kathy Liebert sitting at the other end of the table. Only hand I played with her was i 3 bet her co open with 87o and cbet an AJx board and took it down. Blinds started the day at 200/400 and finished the day at 400/800 I think.

I don't remember anything from level 1 pretty sure I had about what I started with. Lost 40k in level 2 by making what seemed like an ok call down with top pair at the time but turned out to be very bad with how the guy ended up playing the rest of the day and a few other non memorable hands.

Level 3 a super nice guy gets moved 2 to my right with a ton of chips (probably like 250k or so). He was playing sub optimally so it seemed like a great spot to win a lot of chips. Level 3 and 4 I end up playing lots of hands and winning without showdown. I was able to chip up pretty easily and had around 115k with about 30 minutes to go in the day. Guy 2 to my right limps MP I raise with 88. Flop is K72 two diamonds I cbet he c/r I call. Turn Jd, he bets pretty big and I fold. He shows a J so not really sure what he was doing there but he got there so gg. Finish day 2 with 98k or so 1k more than I started the day with.

Will post day 3-4 in a day or so.

    Day 3:

So to start day 3 blinds were 500/1k with a 100 chip ante. My table to start the day was not that great. I think there was maybe 1 or 2 weaker players but they busted in an hour or so and the rest of the table was filled with young internet pro's for the most part. I had between 80k-110k for the first few hours. 2 hands that I remember are 4 way I defend bb with KhQh flop overs and a fd and lead 3 streets when I bricked the river and I end up winning a 3 bet pot with 78o on a J5678 board. So my image isn't great and I manage to hang around 100k until level 3 where I defend 9c7c multiway. Call a cbet on a 9hJc8c check behind Kc turn and bet really big on a blank river and get called by a good player. That gets me up to roughly 150k. It was weird on day 3 I played the very last hand before break every time and won each one. So right before dinner break I defend a 3 bet with AQ co vs bu. flop is Qh10h2c I c/c a cbet. turn Jh check check river 8h. I decide to bluff and bet a little more than half pot he thinks for a while and folds KK. So at dinner break I have ~170k

When I come back from dinner I knew I wouldn't' be at this table much longer as we were the second or 3rd table to break from the pavilion room and be moved into the amazon room. For those of you who haven't been to the rio during wsop time the amazon room has the espn feature tables and is the main room for the wsop. I didn't play anymore memorable hands at this table and everybody was pretty happy when we broke as it was a really bad table. So I'm feeling pretty good about my chances at a better table for the remaining 2 hours of the day as I walk to my new table in the Amazon room. Unfortunately I sit down and there's a guy with around 700k to my direct left. Pretty much exactly what I was hoping not to have to deal with. Right beside him though is Patrick Antonius. Not really a table upgrade if you ask me. Was pretty happy there was only a few hours left in the day.

Nothing really notable happened at that table except I stole Patrick's blinds a few times. Then with like 15 minutes to go in the day I open AKo in mp and get flatted by mr chipleader to my direct left. It's hu and the flop is A52r I bet he calls. Turn 7 bringing fd I bet again he calls. River 10 I bet again and he calls and I lose to A10o. Pretty disappointed by that as it was a big pot and I end the day with basically what I started with 98k or so.

    Day 4:

It was everybody's understanding that the bubble would burst today as there was like 1200 ppl left at this point I think and 749 got paid. I started the day with around 30 bb's. My table looked pretty good when I got there. There was some ft pro to my left who I hadn't heard of but is named will the thrill or something and turned out to be a pretty funny guy and reasonably competent.

I didn't waste any time getting started in level one. Played probably 40% of my hands as I kept getting dealt good hands. Had AK twice, both times I won the pot with a cbet. I have around 140k when the following hand happens. I'm in sb with 1010 older euro gentleman opens utg+1 or 2 flatted in two places I flat sb bb folds. flop is K105 rainbow I decide to c/c a cbet from pfr and we see a Q turn bringing a fd. He bets like 50k on the turn and I have like 90 behind or so so I jam and he calls and I hold vs AK. After that hand I have around 280k.

Level 2 is uneventful other than another guy at my table beginning a pretty sick heater where he flops quads on a 447 board calls a c/r and gets it all in vs 1010 on a 10 turn. Then he flops 2 sets vs overpairs and by the end of level 3 has just over 1.1 million and is the tournament chip leader. (started the day with 200k) This becomes a problem as we approach the money bubble.

As level 3 is coming to a close I have around 300k and he opens mp fishy co flats I flat button with 108cc. Flop is 8KJ with 1 club. The way he's been playing I feel like calling 1 cbet is gonna be profitable so I call his cbet other guy folds. turn is a off suit 9 he checks I check behind. River is a 7 and I was watching him as the 7 came and I got a pretty serious feeling he had a huge hand. He checked pretty quickly and now I was convinced he was gonna c/r me. I took a minute to figure out what the best play was and was really close to checking behind. I decided though that he could be c/r as a bluff so I was gonna bet really small so that I could call his c/r. So I bet 5k into like a 40k pot and he takes 3 seconds and jams which is an absurd overbet since I started the hand with around 300k. Spent about 1-2 minutes cursing myself for betting then I folded. He later told me he had Q10 and was hoping I had a 10 fwiw.

After break we were getting close to the money and mr chip leader decided to play really aggro and limited my ability to chip up around the bubble. I end up just playing pretty tight and and not winning a pot for about 2 hours due to having the second best hand a lot. I go into dinner break with around 180k which is 3 ppl away from the money.

After dinner I continue to not win a hand until the bubble burst and from that point everybody is in a pretty good mood. Players start busting really fast after that and I would say that at least 100 ppl bust in the hour following the bubble. That's when our table ends up breaking and I get handed a card to go to the main espn feature table. I have roughly 115k going to the feature table which is pretty short and around 20 bb's at the time I think. When I get there I get miked up and while I'm filling out the espn profile I notice that Michael Mizrachi is 2 to my left. Other than him I didn't' recognize anybody although I realised myself and Mizrachi had way below average at the table.

I end up playing about 30 minutes at the feature table before they break it up. Only notable hand was me folding q4o or some trash and mizrachi winning a race for his tournament life. So with an hour left and under 20bb's I get moved to a new table. To my right is hasan habib, some good russian guy with a lot of chips and beside him is some guy who finished 11th last year. To my direct left is Brandon Cantu, beside him is petter jetten and beside him is a young online guy with a bunch of chips. Not the best table for sure but doesnt' really matter when I'm in push fold. Played 1 hand at this table where petter jetten opens russian guy flats I jam As10s, jetten folds russian guy calls with 55 and I win the flip. That was the first time I got all in so far in the tournament where I wasn't better than an 80% favourite. Nothing else happens and I finish the day with 185k going into day 5.

Nice summary, glad you remember so much!

That AQ hand.. don't you think most hands that you are "bluffing" on the river (ie that beat tptk - would be betting the turn pretty often? QQQ/JJJ/QJ etc) ..?

He never has QJ imo and I'd expect anything nutted bets the turn including big hearts. Given that I'm oop I feel like I can have more nutted stuff than him once we get to the river this way. I'm ahead on the river a lot all I was trying to do was increase the times I win the pot by getting him to fold a chop and probably an over pair or some sort of random air he had that rivered 2 pair. My image was pretty good at this point and I know he'd give me credit for playing pretty solid.

    Day 5:

Only recognized 1 person at my day 5 table which was Alex K (no idea how to spell his last name). He's good and aggro and he was sitting 3 to my right. Other than that my table seemed decent. I don't remember anything notable from the first 2 levels other than Alex playing 2 pretty crazy hands with an older guy to his right. Hand 1 Older guy raises co alex flats button. Flop is 1076 rainbow. Older guy c/r alex calls. Turn 5 bringing fd Older guy bets pretty big alex calls. River Blank (don't remember what it was but it's not relevant) old guy checks alex jams old guy folds Alex shows J9o. Little while later old guy builds his stack back up to 500k or so which was probably 60-70bb's. He opens utg+1 alex 3 bets he calls. flop is KsJs3s he checks alex bets halfpot or so he jams alex calls with 5s4s he has 6s6c lol. Alex holds and has almost 2 million in chips through 2 levels.

level 3 is 5k/10k blinds and I have a little less than I started with I think so roughly 12-15bb's. I jam mp with AsJs button doesn't see my shove and puts out 30k otb. The rule is he can either call my shove or fold. He elects to fold and alex in the sb is getting a pretty good price because of buttons donation and calls with A6o. I hold and double up. Next hand I remember is loose passive type player playing pretty active pre opens button I defend bb with Ad7d (he has me covered). Flop is 678 I c/c a cbet turn K check check river 2 or something. Same logic as the AQ hand from day 3, I try to increase the times I win the pot and maybe get him to fold 99 or an 8 and bet more than half pot. He insta snaps and mucks when I turn over A7. Then berates me for my preflop call lol. Pretty sure he had AQ or something. Last important hand from this level is when I open MP with AQ and get called by a bad younger guy from button. Flop is Q105 rainbow. I cbet he calls. Turn K I c/c a half pot bet. River 7 he bets a little less than half pot again. I think for a pretty long time as if I call and lose I lose 2/3 of my stack. I end up calling and he mucks 77. I saw him c/r an oesd earlier on in the day and bet turn when he hit so I expect him to raise the large majority of his monsters on the flop and probably his J9 type hands as well. I thought it was pretty likely he was turning a pair like 10x into a bluff. If I lose I think it's to exactly KQ. So now I'm up to around 750k at dinner break.

Coming back from dinner there's another 2 hours of play for the day. I play a pot with alex where I defend bb to his co open and c/r a low wet board with air and he folds. Don't really play anymore interesting hands until I open 1010 from mp and kid from the AQ hand jams from sb or bb and I call and hold vs his 88. This gets me over the million chip mark. Nothing really happens for the rest of the day and I finish with 987k or so.

    Day 6:

This was scheduled to be the longest day so far as we were supposed to play an extra level today. That means playing from noon until just before 1 am. The number they were shooting for was 81 players and 205 started day 6.

I recognized 2 ppl at my table who were Jason Senti he was at the other end of the table from me and Juha Helpi who is a tourny pro from Finland. Didn't play any hands with Jason and only played 1 hand with Juha where I 3 bet bluffed him.

I played at this table for about 3 levels as we broke just before dinner. Only 2 notable hands that I played stand out. First one was I 3 bet and called a shove with JJ vs guy to my right with 20bb's or so and won a flip vs AK. That got me up to 1.3-1.4 million or so. Second hand was vs John Dolan who was sitting to my direct left. (he's second in chips going into the November 9) He has me barely covered to start the hand and he opens utg. I defend bb with AhJh and c/c a cbet on Kh4h4. Turn 8h I c/c again. River 7 I c/jam and he folds pretty quickly which gets me up close to 2 million.

An interesting aside was when I had 1.1 million or so earlier in the day which was like 28bb's or so. Italien guy (who's like 4th or 5th in chips going into the November nine) sitting to my direct right opens mp I flat co with 99. BB squeezes (he had been 3 betting a squeezing a bunch so far). Now if mp folds I was planning to jam however mp jams for 1.8 million or so I fold and bb calls pretty fast (he has him covered) mp has AA and bb has QQ. I tell John that I folded 99 and was planning to jam and look for a 9 to come on the board. ESPN comes over board runs out K10759. I give john a nod and Italian guy goes crazy celebrating. So crazy that he gets a 1 orbit penalty. He doesn't care as he now has just shy of 4 million. This hand will be on the coverage for sure. Too bad he couldn't have folded and I could have hit a 2 outer on national tv J.

So our table breaks just before dinner and I get moved to a new table that looked very good. There's the tourney chip leader at the time Theo Jorgonson at the far end, a young euro 2 to my right and other than that everybody else at the table is above 35. I lose a few hundred thousand in uninteresting ways and go into dinner break with 1.7 million or so.

At some point after dinner break I 3 bet the young euro with QQ and he jams 1010 and I hold. That gets me to 2.3 million or so when our table breaks again with about 1.5 hours left in the day.

I get moved to a new table with Johnny Lodden and Will Thorson sitting beside each other drinking vodka red bulls and having a good time with everybody at the table including the rail. Very fun last hour at the poker table as I think they got to vodka redbull number 5 or 6 by the time day 6 was over. Nothing interesting happens and I lose every hand I play to finish the day with 1.8 million or so.

    Day 7:

I show up to a mediocre table which includes Jason Senti (who is very short stacked) Brynn Kenney, David Baker and few more known players. Through the first 30 minutes I fail at stealing the blinds twice but don't really have anything playable. Then I open Q9o in late position get called by BB who I don't recognize. He's played fairly active so far 3 betting and flatting raises oop. Flop is 89c10c check check. Turn red 9. I bet 150k he c/r to 500k and I jam around 1.4 million more. He calls with A9 and I forget to use my one time when the cameras come over and I'm out in 76th place. Still don't have an opinion on my bust out hand as I only had around 30 bb's to start the hand. Walking out of the rio I was extremely tilted and pretty tired. It had been a long week. I knew I should have just cashed out at the cage when I got to 1.8 million. O well decent run and I had fun throughout.

I remember reading michael1123's main event recap a few years ago and found it really interesting at the time. So hopefully you guys got something out of this.
