Default Lets Talk About Our Options Here.

Villain is 18/12 ATS 26% and folds to 58% of 3 bets over 1.3k hands 4 bets 9% of the time. What's our plan here on the flop. Think this is a spot where there's often disagreement as to what the best line is. Be interested to hear some thoughts on this sort of spot.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (4 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Button ($107)
    SB ($115.65)
    Hero (BB) ($100)
    UTG ($124.30)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q, Q
1 fold, Button bets $3, 1 fold, Hero raises $9.50, Button calls $7.50

    Flop: ($21.50) A, 8, K (2 players)

    Worse is calling/semi bluffing.

Not alot of A's or K's in his range.

Dear Carroters, sweet job posting this up in the wrong forum. Bla, bla, bla, ball busting, ball busting.

Anywho, nice post. This hand will be sure to get a ton of discussion. This spot is always pretty tough for me to play. I can never come up with a good enough reason for betting the flop here, although I feel checking leaves us hella exploitable.

I honestly feel it's a spot where we'll need some post-flop reads. How often is villain floating us here? How often does villain bet when checked to?
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

Yeah I'm kinda interested in a spot like this where we don't really have any relevant recent history and are kind of readless as to his tendencies postflop. Like what are people's default lines vs a reasonably wide range here like this guy has?

Yeah, move this somewhere I won't post cuz I'm a shitty 5nl player.

If it was A85 or something, I would bet. AK8cc I would check, and likely c/c and re-eval.

And be c/c or c/f the flop?
  13. #13
    c/f I guess

if you think he will be aggro post i prefer 3barrel but maybe c/c is okay if you think he will just one and done this flop
  14. #14
Is there any size you call if he bets? Like what if he bets 1/5 pot?

I 3bet bigger pre & I usually b/f 10 because you almost never will get floated by an underpair here but get called by most PP's pre. C/f any further action.

i think this hand has more to do with previous history with this player when he's playing specifically against YOU. i mean, does he think you fold too much and he's willing to fire multiple barrels as a bluff in which case you can check-call etc on this board or other boards that are Axx, Kxx etc...

if he's the type that calls all the time pre and then never folds post then might as well value bet even if its super thin cuz apparently he just doesnt fold.

sometimes its okay to fold nice hands when the board comes super terrible, as long as yo're pretty confident villain won't super exploit you, which at this level they're rarely going to do.

if he 4bets 9% this generally means he doesnt 4bet bluff much, then again he doesn't open many hands either (12% pfr) - however since he doesn't seem to fold to 3bets a ton he can have lots of Kx or Ax hands (AJ, AT, KQ, KJ, broadways etc) here that you're like drawing dead to - and if he calls with pairs say 88-TT etc then he's prob more than happy to just check all 3 streets down

If we feel he's unlikely to float with an underpair here, why are we betting?

c/f the entire way besides maybe the river on certain run outs.

Bet bigger preflop but fold on the flop. This is a very difficult situation really. 2 overcards on the board will really get me to fold. It's just not worth it.
