    Default Spoiled White Kids

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/07/bu...tion.html?_r=1

“The conversation I’m going to have with my parents now that I’ve turned down this job is more of a concern to me than turning down the job,” he said.
Holy dog shit $@%@#$%@#$%@#@%#$. This kid makes me ashamed to be a cracker.

I would put him in the "23 percent are not even seeking a job." category.

I believe the article is supposed to be about young people not being able to find a job but I tend to agree with spoon.

How exactly did you interpret it?

The kid thought he'd be handed shit on a platter but he isn't being handed shit exactly as shiny as he felt it should be handed to him and now he is failing large to do anything to improve his situation and is chalking it up to "oh dose changing times".

    He's a fucker.

Not sure what it has to do with being white tho. It has to do with upper-middle class feelings of entitlement.

He does several odd jobs for cash, is a volunteer firefighter, and mails out several resumes and cover letters a week. I dont really follow how he isnt seeking a job or is a spoiled kid.

While Scott Nicholson viewed the Hanover job as likely to stunt his career, David Nicholson, 57, accustomed to better times and easier mobility, viewed it as an opportunity. Once in the door, the father has insisted to his son, opportunities will present themselves — as they did in the father’s rise over 35 years to general manager of a manufacturing company.
Scott's Old Man is right on the above but so very wrong in that he continues to allow Scott to suck on his teat. In that, everyone is wrong but I say again, Scott is especially a fucker.

He's 24 and passing up opportunities for self-sufficiency because the temperature of his bath water isn't correct.

Ok game changer for me lol.

A job at an insurance company for someone with little to no experience in business/economics/etc whose goal is some kind of financial/marketing gig is a dream

First, it was Officer training, so it's a little different than a guy saying that he's willing to do anything, like be a grunt to be self-sufficient and second, he was specifically looking to make a career out of the Marines. This guy is ridic hung up on the concept of a laid-out-with-rose-petals career path.

Finally, this, after his asthma diagnosis:

“They finally told me I could reapply if I wanted to,” Scott said. “But the sheen was gone.”

Oh, the precious SHEEN was gone. What a fucker.

    meh, i wouldn't want to work in a dead-end 40k a year job either.

The jobs are catch as catch can. He and a friend recently put up a white wooden fence for a neighbor, embedding the posts in cement, a day’s work that brought Scott $125. He mows lawns and gardens for half a dozen clients in Grafton, some of them family friends. And he is an active volunteer firefighter.
    he doesn't seem so bad.

I read it more as an article describing this kid's resistance to enter a job/career he doesn't want to enter. I'm not sure he's spoiled...it just seems he knows what he wants.

What I DON'T understand is why he doesn't take a job while looking for another job?
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

i blame the internet, why work when you can stay home all day and masterbate.

i don't work, it would cut into my masterbation schedule. i'm looking for a job that would allow me yank breaks and smoke breaks.

Being a single person in your mid-twenties and turning down a 40k a year job (that might not be exactly what you want, but certainly isn't shoveling poo at the sewage treatment plant) makes you a fucker. And it's even worse when you're living at home.
