Default Recommend me a horror movie plz

I'm running out of horror movies to watch. Have you seen a good one? Foreign horror very welcome too esp if subbed. Extra points if it's available online.

Ghost movies are the best imo but whatever you think is good.

Why are ghosts scarier than monsters? Because you can kill a monster but you can't kill a ghost. Once the ghost gloms onto you, you're just screwed.

Event Horizon. The only movie in my life that scared the bugeezes out of me, I remember coming out of the cinema and my friends asking me if I was ok. That never happened before and never happened again. And I'm not the only one that was scared from this movie, when there was a poll a week months back on reddit about the best scary/horror movie, Event Horizon was the top voted one!
  3. #3
Martyrs, but only if you like really downright disturbing torture porn with a weird philosophical premise. Also it's French.

    The Orphanage

REC (Spanish, remade as Quarantine in the US, also pretty good)

will add more as they come to me
Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Yeah, Event Horizon is great, esp if you enjoy sci-fi.

Cabin in the Woods was amazing, but not sure it really fits strictly into the horror genre. Still, if you haven't seen it, it's a must watch.

While watching it, I don't think anything freaked me out quite as much as The Ring...
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

I'd probably die if I watched The Ring

This movie scared the shit out of me. And I never get scared from horror movies because I'm a rational human being. I watch them all and enjoy them but they never succeed at pulling me in. Something about this movie got around that and had me spooked for weeks. I will never watch it again but I recommend it to watch once.

Also, I found it weird that a lot of people I know who do get spooked by horror movies didn't find this one scary.

Exactly my thoughts. Horror movies have never scared me but this one gave me the shivers and hair on the back of my neck feelings

The Ring mostly just annoyed me, I don't remember if I even watched it til the end. I already knew what the movie would be about before I watched it that can lessen the effect too.

The Ring freaked me out big time, horrible film that I never intend to watch again. Good shout on Event Horizon, great film and does build tension really well and is definitely a freaky movie, one of my fav sci-fis. I'd also recommend the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

And on the same lines as Event Horizon, Sphere, which I actually preferred.

OP needs a list of your favorites/recently watched or something

    I'll toss out
    Serpent and the Rainbow
    The Believers

since they may have been before your time.

edit - couple other cool ones on netflix

Just watched Event Horizon. That was freaky. The whole second half of the movie I'm thinking, it's 50/50 to open the portal to heaven. That's some serious runbad.

If you like Asian Horror check out this site. You used to be able to watch the movies on the site but I think the internet police are catching up to them.

Serpent and the Rainbow was good. I actually rewatched that recently. Rec is awesome. The Orphanage was good. If you liked that, you'd probably like The Awakening with Rebecca Hall who is seriously gorgeous.

Seen all the Ring movies. I think there's like nine of them. The original Japanese, two different sequels, a prequel, a Korean version, the American series with Samara instead of Sadako, and lastly the laughable Sadako 3D where she morphs into a race of huge spider monsters.

Seen all the Juon/Grudge movies. Really really good. That's Kayako btw, a damn fine ghost.

Lol, my 9 year old asked me recently if I'd heard of a film called the human caterpillar. I didn't correct him.

no he hasn't seen it but news of it's content has apparently made its way to the playgrounds of britain.

I liked Drag me to Hell a lot. Just for being simple and unpretentious. Orphan is pretty cool. Mama - mostly shock horror but pretty well done.
    The remake of the Thing
The Silent Hill adaption was above my expectations.

If you want foreign specifically: Let the right one in (no ghosts), We are what we are (no ghosts either), and Dellamorte Dellamore (not scary, just great, no ghosts)

My daughter (12) asked me the very same!

One scene from a movie that made me jump out of my skin was in The Sixth Sense when he's having piss and ***SWOSH*** that dressing gown passed. Still think about that every fucking time I'm pissing at night with the door open!

And with that in mind, I couldn't take acid at a party if Tim Curry was there.

Haha my sister thought for the longest time that "it" actually meant clown when she was little, it took me over a year to notice she was using the word in the wrong way and correct her. I think if you watch the movie now it'll be a disappointment though, if I remember correctly the end is really meager with some weird alien.

Also haven't the Nightmare on Elm Street movies not been mentioned yet? They were my favorites as a kiddo.

For the same reason nobody has mentioned Ghostbusters yet.
It's like recommending the Simpsons in the Series recommendation thread.

It's the best analogy I could come up with. It has ghosts, it's a movie and everybody knows it.

Oh really. I skipped that one. Guess I'll put it on my list right after the Evil Dead remake - both trailers look amazing.

Thx. I'm getting some good to-watch recommendations here.

Here are some lower budget horror flicks I saw recently that were pretty good:
    Case 39
    Cassadaga
    Shelter
    The Pact

The Caretaker is kinduva perv. Very good movie tho.

Let The Right One In was awesome. That's my favorite vampire movie for sure.

Another good vampire movie is Thirst. Very good K-horror where a Catholic monk/saint guy volunteers for an anti vampire virus experiment and then proceeds to go on a lady-banging blood-sucking rampage.

The Evil Dead remake is pretty good. Did not like that they adhered to the shock flick standard of casting one of every high school stereotype, but the cast was great. Lead is outstanding and the production value wasn't wasted.

It was really good and I don't usually like that sort of movie.

It's been a good few years for horror. Here are some Hollywood horror flicks that are worth checking out:

Dark Skies, The greys are after your children. The Law&Order psychiatrist is good as the alien expert.

Insidious, Coma kids are really trapped in limbo battling ghosts and demons and such. Lin Shaye, that's her in my avatar, is great as the ghostbuster.

Insidious 2, The mystery of the witch who haunted the dad in 1 is explained. Lin Shaye is back as a ghostbuster from beyond the grave. Insidious 3 will be out soon and probably tell the story of the red-faced demon.

Sinister, Horror goes multi-cultural as we finally get a Babylonian demon. A sequel is planned.

The Conjuring, Story of 'true life' ghostbusters the Warrens' most difficult case. Best Hollywood horror in a long time imo. Mr. Warren is the same actor Patrick Wilson as the dad from Insidious.

The Possession, The dybbuk box movie. Some people didn't like the ending but I did. Nice to see a rabbi hero too.

Still looking for Spanish and other foreign horror. Latin cinema is supposed to be big on the supernatural thriller like with The Orphanage. Any Spanish or Latin American horror buffs out there? Any more supernatural gems from Europe we yanks might not have heard of?

watching event horizon after a strong drinnk. i might periodically update this post with my impressions.

    SPOILERs!

opening credits LOL the music!! amazing

lawrence fishburne agreed to do the matrix because he loves grungy looking ship interiors? and he wanted a shot at an actually successful film? the weedy crew member who appears last on screen in that scene looks like the weedy guy from the matrix, what was he called again, mouse?

first "scary" scene with claire and huey(?) or at least some apparition of claire in a dream with OMG no eyes in her sockets. hmm. is it bad that i laughed in this scene?

he wakes up from his dream or whatever, get out of his pod, gets helped up WHEE gratuitous boobie shot

what's up with the really gay black dude with a 'tasche?

hmm maybe he's not gay after all.

    blonde chick i dig

boarding event horizon. explanation of explosives - lol foreshadowing

lol in 2040 ship logs are stored on cd roms

did she really just say "corpsicle"?

i love how the gravity drive core bit basically looks like a medieval torture device

hmm i haven't been genuinely scared yet, nor have i flinched

    "this ship is fucked" lol

brawling british guy. i do love the stereotypes...

the decompression scene in the airlock was fairly uncomfortable i admit. but the door opened... how do you not insta-die? physics fail.

morpheus after watching the degarbled log videos of the previous crew bloodbath: "we're leavin'!" LOLOL

err ya so i forgot to update this. it was pretty entertaining!

i think it's one of the better bad movies that are out there to kill some time with.

One thing I liked about Event Horizon is that the crew actually showed some military discipline. That ruined Prometheus for me; their crew was like "We're several light years from home. Now is a good time to throw a hissy fit and start doing exactly what we feel like." Umm no.

Little Deaths. It's basically three 30-minute movies together that have some similar themes.

The first and third parts are the best. The second part is just weird.

Those are really good movies. Did you read the book by Jeff Long? Ali the nun who studies primordial languages is sent on a quest to the underworld by her Senator mentor who belongs to a group trying to track down Satan who turns out to be the reincarnated philosopher king of these underground ghoulies. It's a really good story.
