Default How much do I have to work?

Im considering migrating into the poker life again but in order to do so I need to know if I can play only 4 hours a day on 50NL. Would that be enought to live out of poker?

    4 hours a day * 6 days a week * 500 hands/hour * (1.5 ptbb/100 + 0.5 ptbb/100 rakeback) * $1/ptbb * 50 weeks/year = $12000/year

Thought I'd have a shot at this. Hopefully someone will come in and tell me where I'm wrong.

If you 10 table for 4 hours, at a winrate of 4ptbb/100, playing 100h an hour, you should average $40/ hr or 160 a day.

    Prolly screwed that up somewhere.

Anyway, good luck. I can't wait until I'm asking myself this same question someday.

yea nobody is going to come back to the current state of poker and play 4ptbb/100 at $50NL without considerable time and effort. There are a ton of people that have been posting in this beginner forum for more than a year that can't achieve that at $25NL with no lack of effort and they have been playing and studying pretty regularly over that time.

If you grind a ton of tables and can achieve a decent win rate + have a rakeback deal, it can be done. But $12-20k per year isn't something to really shoot for. It's poverty level wages if you have any kind of debt. If you don't have a job, go get one. If you do, but are thinking about quitting for poker - don't. It's that simple. Personally, I wouldn't go full-time without at least 6 months living expenses with a $10k poker roll and a good win rate @100nl over 100k+ hands.

I think it is impossible to say how much you will actually be making, it depends on so many things.

    1) how quickly you will learn / re-learn
    2) it is hard to tell if you will be able to sustain the 4 hours a day frequency. It sounds doable, yes, but things change and what might have been easy for you now, might not be so later on.
    3) how good you were before you quit

in my slim experience (and please don't take this as an offence), people who usually ask this sort of question, ie "how much can I make playing NL50 for 4 hours a day?" are usually the people who quit quickly and never achieve anything in poker. You know why? because they are approaching the game from the wrong side. They are only concerned with how much they can make, and not really concerned with self-development, which is basically setting yourself up for failure.

Try to re-frame your thinking patterns to "I will become a good poker player no matter what it takes". If you can do that, then you've got a good shot. And keep in mind that 4 hours of play a day equals probably an extra 1,5 - 2 hours of hand analysis and discussion a day, so be ready to devote a total of 6+ hours daily.

    Hope this helps.
