    Default Books to read

I'm currently almost done reading Hold 'Em for Advanced Players and then going to re-read most of it.

What other books do you guys recommend? I'm mostly interested in NL, but I might try a limit experiment for a few weeks maybe. I plan to get Theory of Poker and Tournament Poker, but what else do you guys recommend.
"Why does this still seem like gambling to you!?"

Theory of Poker. I'd recommend it over HEfAP for learning No Limit.

I would read Theory of Poker before rereading HEFAP. HEFAP only briefly covers some topics explained in depth in TOP.

From what I hear Brunson's Super System is required reading for NL, but I haven't read it. It's next on my list.

Add to that list "Pyschology of Poker by Alan Shoonmaker" (POP, DS also helped with the book) I'm only half way through but the book is awsome so far. I've heard good things about "Inside the Poker Mind" too, this is currently on my wish list.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .
    Barney's back . . . back again . . .

*insert standard post about the dangers of playing NL like they say in Super System at a low limit table*

Point taken. I think a fair percentage of players play this way in tourneys, which is where I see most of my no limit action.

Even if you don't play that aggressively, it's good to know what the other side is thinking, IMO.

Telling a Poker Player to stay away from Super System is like telling a literary major not to read The Color Purple.

I agree with you Fnord, there is a lot of stuff in Super System that doesn't transfer to low limit. ("The board shows K38, and you have a big raiser. He wouldn't have stayed in with a K3, a K8 or a 38. So we must put him on KA, KQ, or maybe KK or AA") No Doyle, actually there is a guy who called the PFR with 38o. He now has 2 pair and won the hand on incredible luck.

Don't rely on Super System's strategy when you are playing anything less that $100/$200 limit or $50/$100 NL game. But you will learn a lot of information about cards, wagers, tells, justifying calling, etc. That IS helpful to even my poker game.

Doyle spends time talking about limit holdem, NL holdem, general poker, a ton of different types of poker, but the general information section is the best part. I also really like the 5 card draw section that Mike Caro wrote, he seems to talk about a little more than just 5 cards draw.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

They don't/can't play like that in SnGs either, given the size of the blinds alone by the time it gets serious.

Folding AQo pre-flop? Playing suited connectors down to 45? AA a trap hand? ....

    Default Doyle

I glanced at Doyle's book and profited for awhile. I have ordered a copy. I think that the advice works on almost any stakes, as long as its NL and as long as the table is full of those "fold to any bet" types.
