The ace came out and I cringed. The heart came out and I died a little inside.

I didn't want to bet too much on the turn just in case he had the ace... but I didn't want to show weakness either.

Sucks. I also find myself in this situation a bit.
What's your read on the button player? Any chance he's a fish with a flush draw? Either way, that's a scary enough sequence of events to justify your play. Good clean lay down for sure.

A tough laydown, and he called a bet on the flop and the turn in which he was not getting good value for his money if it indeed was a flush draw ($3 to win $6.75 with a 40% chance to hit and then $4 to win $13.74 on a 20% chance to hit his flush). Maybe the pre-flop raise could have been stronger to try and knock him off the draw, but he was likely holding onto the Ah.

It was a good laydown and a good lesson in the strength of position. I think this hand looks quite a bit different, if he is UTG on the turn and river.
