Default $50NL Hand - TPTK gets raised

I almost folded as soon as he raised me to avoid a difficult situation, but I decided it was time to give my sack a squeeze and learn some poker. Been tryin to get away from callin so much lately.

I raised to see where he thought he was at, and he only called. I think the pot was too big to throw out a potsized bet - could have been a big waste. Maybe too much 6max...Then again my show of strength showed that I wanted him to fuck off. Im sure play like this is gonna kill me in variance.

I figure him for KQ or possibly AQ.

What do you think I should have done differently on the turn?

Oh and pretend you cant see what happened preflop.

I was going to give advice until i realized it was pot limit haha.

I generally lay this down, or call and check the turn except when i'm up against a maniac.

Given the right player i'll push with top pair top kicker, but i won't call many raises unless they are a maniac.

I have no reasons for the preflop play, it was an error...I should have deleted that part of the hand history because now thats all that people are gonna focus on.

Then again maybe thats all that is possible to focus on because there was no preflop raise and therefore no assurances that I have not already chased out all the small freak cards that coulda had me.

How should I have done the turn?
Ive got one vote for fold.

Smack every part of a hand is important, you can't just leave things like that out. It's puzzle and you need every piece (sp?) to see the whole picture for what it is. I mean the only thing id be worried about there is a set or maybe qj in an unraised pot. If he had AA KK QQ JJ AK AJ AQ KQ he will probably raise in a limped pot from mid position, any sensible player wouldnt limp J3 or Q3. If up him on maybe j10, q10 or a straight draw trying for a free card. Although I don't think j10 or q10 would be more apt to stick around on the turn there.

Yea you are right, my check preflop made it pretty hard to guess at his holdings.

I never play pot limit, but i would think in pot limit it would be even more important to raise pre-flop with good hands, as it will give you more room to bet and apply pressure on people. I'm actually just curious if that is the right thing to do? Now technically the pot odds would always be the same but fish don't use pot odds.

Yea fish are funny. Well Ive got about 30 more bucks to win before I hit my $1k mark and start cashin out a little bit. Its gonna be nice that these last couple months of constant poker and learning are going to pay off. It feels nice having started with $150. Glad as hell I found these forums.
