Slow down on the river. What are you hoping he is holding? AT?

More probable is AQ or AJ, he likely has you beat here. It could even be a split AK but most would not have raised to all in there with that hand.

i was worried about aq at first, but think about it. He's either good or he's bad. a good player, i can assume has good cards. a good player would raise me there with AQ. The other option, is he's a bad player. so, either i'm up against a good player with a bad hand, or a bad player with basically any hand. i welcome being up against a good player with a bad hand, and i also welcome being up against a bad player with any hand, i wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt.

by the time he finally reraised me on the river, i knew i was beat, but i couldn't fold 16 bucks into a 130 pot. i could've just check/folded the river?

AK with TPTK and deep money out of position. Tough spot.

    I'd probably check the river...

Checking will likely lead to a cheaper showdown. He will probably make a value bet to maximize his profits which will be less than an all in. If he is all in and you call, well either you catch a bad hand buying the pot or the end result is the same as the way you played it ie you lose as much money. Then of course it gives you the option of folding as you are not as pot committed. He called the flop and turn so he will very likely call the river too.

Also, him not raising you on the flop does not mean that he is a poor player. If he had AQ and put you on AK or KK its not a dumb idea to get you pot committed before making a move. Its not a very dangerous play against a sole opponent given the limited amount of outs you are drawing to.

    himself fucker.
    Check and fold the river.

Better hands are betting behind you, worse hands will probably check (Ace and worse kickers.) Also, the board is 3 broadway which is never a good sign for TPTK.

His two calls are enough information to put him on something better.

well, good point billy boy, i hadn't thought of it that way. i'd still consider it a bad play to sit on 2 pair on the flop though, i could have aa or qq just as easily as i'd have kk or ak. and i'm obviously calling decent bets with ak, so really he's only suckering me in more if i have kk. even then, if i bet the pot on the flop with kk with an ace on the board and got called i'm probably checking the turn.

as i'm thinking about it more, i like checking the river. seemed like the pot was already big enough to merit a push at the time, but it was 40 more bucks.

Anyway, this guy was a clown, he had me beat, but i got beaten by the absolute most ridiculous hand ever. it was mainly the river i was wondering about. he did have me beat then, i could've saved myself 40 bucks, i just wanted to see if in the future when i'm out of position do you think i should check/fold on a river with tptk when he's showed absolutely no strength. River card i guess was dangerous in a lot of ways though.

What difference does it make if you raise on that flop with AQ followed by a push by your opponent with QQ or AA? Can you make the laydown? If not then it has no practical diffrense.
