Is Timothy Treadwell for real?

So last night I went to see a film about a naturalist who was eventually eaten by bears with a bunch of mates. We assumed it was a spinal tap type comedy because we had not laughed so much at a film for some time. But there were some people in the cinema (a small independant one) who I couldn't help but notice seemed to be taking it seriously and not appreciating our laughing. Then I google the guy and he's in Wikpedia ......

I have a habit of doing the same thing. I was laughing out loud during many of the scenes in "Crash" where other people were gasping (e.g. many of the stereotype scenes I found very humorous).

As far as this movie, I watched it at home with my wife and I knew that this guy was for real and still laughed - and still got punched by my wife for being insensitive.

Among the last words Timothy Treadwell uttered to his girlfriend before a bear killed and partially ate both of them were these:


"Get out here. I'm getting killed.''

The tape full of screams and rustling sounds details the attack, Wilkinson said, but adds little to explain exactly what happened or why. The tape, he said, lasts about three minutes. Scratching and dragging noises on it have led troopers to believe Treadwell might have been wearing a body mike when the attack began.

After Treadwell calls for help, Wilkinson said, Huguenard can be heard shouting "play dead.'' That is the recommended response to being grabbed by a brown or grizzly bear, but authorities stress the idea of playing dead should be abandoned if the bear continues to press the attack.

On the tape, shortly after the warning to "play dead,'' Wilkinson said, "Huguenard is heard to scream "fight back.'' Treadwell later yells "hit him with a pan,'' Wilkinson said.

man you guys are brutal! I just rented this with my girlfriend and I have to admit parts of it did border on humorous (his effeminate manner for one) .. but to laugh and say he deserved to get owned by bears, is a little much for me man, wow. In any case it's quite a portrait of a really weird guy, and an interesting story.
