so let's say you're up against a guy you respect. not necessarily a great white, but you know he's not stupid/is a winning player. if a situation like this happened 100 times, what do you do?

If the scenario and your read (the "situation") are identical each time, why would your action change no matter how many times it occurred?

hmm, i'm having trouble explaining what my question is. i guess its broader than i thought. basically, i'm just trying to adjust what the line is that will make me fold aces. looking back, i like my fold, but i would have won. There was only one hand he could have had that would've made him act like he did and still be losing, and i don't really think i could've anticipated him having it when he pushed.

So he had AQ when you expected him to have 10 X or QQ. Note this for future situations and be more apt to call in this situation.

But I'd say against a solid but not super-tricky opponent, you have to dump this most of the time. Catching trips or 2 pair and forcing an overpair (especially AA!) all-in is how a lot of people make a lot of money.

Unfortunately, sometimes I don't take my own advice. I was destacked with QQ on a 885 flop this weekend. And somebody took another chunk when I had AA on a As 9s 4s flop. (The guy called a pre-flop raise with 8s 2s!).

(BTW, is your avatar a spinning piledriver?!? If not, you have issues to deal with.)

actually he had KK. and, i dunno, looking back i feel like it was a good fold, a lot of times i am going to be beat there, but its bugging me. i guess one bad read doesn't really mean anything, but i think doubling up is a great way to make money, as does everyone i'm sure, so everytime i miss a chance to i really want to make sure i did the right thing.

and, my avatar is obviously me piledriving a 5 year old, if your mind is wishing that the piledrivee was facing the other way, talk to bigred about that...

I guess it was his preflop play that confused me. I usually reraise with KK, as I expect most people to do, unless they are trapping head's up (or they are a bad player).

Also, note that if he always goes all-in with AA or KK on a Q 10 10 board (or similar) and you fold, he will lose his stack when someone has a 10 and you won't.

Zangief piledrives men all day long ... but is all man, baby!

yes, that's why i didn't put him on that. the raise/call flop push made me think queens. i'm trying to think of excuses to have called. only thing i can think of, is that was a pretty big reraise. i would think if he had a monster, he would've called, and the only hands i was worried about were monsters.
