The turn play was odd, I know, but I had just lost another hand set over set not three hands before. Thought I might pick up a call...hey, I was right. I just couldn't believe he had me beat. Do you like the play, what with the draws and overcards out? I just thought I'd rather him put me on a stone-cold bluff and call with something weak, since I was venting. He probably shit his pants when I just pushed.

Anyway, like I said...two in a row set over set. In addition to my already running-three week downswing, this was just...icing on the cake?

I seriously want to quit. At least I can't whine about not getting sets anymore.

If you can lure him into a call with a worse hand, this is a good play. That falls under playing the player, though, and I can't tell from just this hand history if he would have called with a lesser hand. In this situation you're going to get a lot of feedback like "only a better hand will call you," and for a lot of opponents, that's quite true. Basically, I think there's a place for plays like this, but I'd need a read on the other player that he was prone to calling a massive overbet before I tried it out. The fact that he had queens was just bad luck and doesn't really relate to whether or not this was a good move.

True - regardless of how you lead out on the turn, you're going broke here.

I just don't see the point here. 90% of the time he folds here and you win the blinds, at which point you should have just pulled this stunt preflop. I don't see what holding he could possibly have and call with that you can beat after he checks behind on the flop. If he bet the flop and you called or something like that, you have a much better chance of getting a call from a top pair type hand with a weird play like this.

I understand that you want him to think you're steaming and call with something like an ace high, but the way the hand plays out, it doesn't make sense. (Never mind the fact that at $50NL it's extremely unlikely he even noticed your results on a previous hand.)

I think the right player might call here with a pair of jacks or a straight draw. But I have no idea if this guy is the right player.

TylerK, either way, you've got to lose your stack here. Even if you raise and get reraised here you've still got to think that you're way ahead here. AQ and KQ come to mind that would probably reraise in this situation.

You get reraised and then it is either time to push or you get in a pissing match to see who's dingy is bigger. I'll think mine is every single time in this situation but lose my stack when I find out otherwise.

In this PARTICULAR situation where the opponent caught specifically a bigger set, yes, you will lose your stack. Don't focus on the results of this specific hand. If results weren't posted, do you like this push?

Middle pair or a straight draw might call a smaller bet. That's your only chance of making any money here.
