Default How should this be done?

    Final table, three players remain.

Player on the BB is eliminated.

    BB moves as per usual.

Button moves to the previous SB.

If I am not mistaken, the small blind is dead for a hand at that point, right? The only alternative would be for the same player to post the SB two hands in a row, which seems really peculiar.

    Am I right?

    himself fucker.
The button moves to SB. The button posts SB and the nonbutton posts BB.

The button is out of position preflop but in position for the rest of the hand.

That's how we do it. So yes, someone will post SB twice which is only an issue if you make it one.

Taken from Home Poker Tourney (Blind Help):

There are Three Players Remaining and One is Eliminated
Determine which player would have been the next big blind ... that player becomes the big blind and the other player is the small blind (and button).

    Examples:
    Player1 (Button), Player2 (SB), and Player3 (BB).
If Player1 is eliminated - Player2 is BB and Player3 is SB and Button.
If Player2 is eliminated - Player1 is BB and Player3 is SB and Button.
If Player3 is eliminated - Player1 is BB and Player2 is SB and Button.

So basically what Rilla said but it also covers the other two situations for you too.

Here's a pretty exhaustive treatment of this:

We use the dead button rule.
