I would have folded that J6 to the raise, hell I wouldn't even limp in late position with it in a ring game...
Why did you check the river? He gave you no indication that he had you beat until you showed weakness and he picked up on it. Neitherthe straight draw nor the flush draw completed. If you believe that you have the best hand you have to keep betting it. If you were worried about being outkicked, stop playing suited cards like that and wait till you pick up a higher quality hand. Its hard to know where you are when you get called down with top pair bad kicker. Now if you had AJ , would you have checked that river?
Sometimes as a result of being aggressive you get called down by a better hand. Better that than them raising you on the river. As you progress as a player, you will find that your reads will be correct more often and you will win bigger pots by continuing your aggression in the appropriate place. For now, stick to the high quality hands so your decisions will be easier.
