Any particular reason why your bet on the turn was so much weaker on the turn than on the flop?

Weak bet on the flop, really weak bet on the turn. You need to spend more money. He probably had the trips but you'll never know... any decent player will attack obvious weakness like you were showing.

My take on it is that this is a loose table and those guys are likely to call my preflop raise with A9s or anything similar to that. I feel like I should have check-folded on the turn. It seems like any betting I did after the initial flop bet (which left in 4 callers) was just giving away my money. I bet weaker on the turn because it seemed to me that I should have already been out of the hand (but I wasn't thinking fast enough to bet big or fold). Should I have bet more, even with 5 people in on the flop? I feel like the odds of somebody having the 9 don't justify it in this case.

If you're going to go weak, go all the way - check/fold the turn. If you're going to bet there though, make it respectable. Otherwise you're just giving money away.

You're right that the table seems loose and someone could have a 9. Then again, only the two remaining nines out of the whole deck beat you (outside of longshots like pocket kings or whatever). Your opponents have eight cards between them, and 9 is not a great card for any hand except pocket 9s or suited connectors... so it seems to me like there's about a 25% chance of one of them having the 9, just going off the odds. So you can't play this weakly. You come out strong on the flop, and if you aren't raised, do it again on the turn. You're trying to get a re-raise. You want to find out quickly if the 9 is out there. If it isn't, you have the best hand. If you take this pot down even just a bit more than half the time, with these monkeys calling you, that makes up for the other times that you spend some money and end up folding to the raise (when someone has the 9). If you throw out two decent-sized bets and get called to the river, check it there and see what happens.

If you bet the pot on the flop, a 9 will show itself right away with a push. But your little bet meant you were scared, and being scared in NL= being dead.
