trouble with $5+1 Sit'N'Go's

Hi, ive been reading this forum for a while, and have about 6 poker books( super system, theory of poker, tourney poker for advanced players, and more), i love playing it, only thing is - i put $100 on party poker 2 days ago and i just cant seem to win, all i really like playing is sit'n'go's but im down to $51 left already

if anybody could help and give me a little strategy to use for $5+1's it would be very appreciated. if any of you could just have a brief look through one of these hand histories and give me any pointers that would be great.

Give me a little time to analyze the game you posted and I'll give you some detailed feedback.

It seems like you never switched gears and you played passively the entire time. People expected you to bet only with the strongest hand (which is probably why you made almost nothing with the nut flush).

There were a couple of situations where you could have made an easy blind steal, expeccially when you were dealth premium hands (AK AQ).

Late in the tourny you waited too long to push all in. The top 3 people already had about 4 times your chips, and they werent going to knock eachother out. If you wanted to be in the money you had to realise that you weren't going to get the KK you were waiting for. By the time you went all in, if you doubled up you would still be relatively short stacked.

You're playing tight/passive. You didn't raise the entire game. You had AQ 1 off the button and didn't try to steal the blinds. You called, and when the flop missed you, you folded. You have to raise preflop with this in late position and then place a continuation bet, no matter what flops. The guy won the hand with 87 (two pair on the flop). He wouldn't have been in the hand if you had raised.

You had a short stack go AI with 310 chips when you had 700 with AK and you folded. You have to call that when you have twice as many chips and he's playing short (and therefore desperate).

The 99 you folded with a big raise and call in front of you was fine.

A6 suited on the button and you just call.... You have to raise!!!!

Basically, you're playing good cards, but you're playing them very poorly. In a single table SnG you cannot, cannot, cannot only play when you have good cards AND a good flop. You can never win that way. Don't play bad cards. But when you play good cards, play them like you've got a pair (either in the hole or down south) and you'll have a chance. That means, raising your way into a hand that hasn't been raised. 3 - 4x BB. That means calling short stacks who go AI when you have AK. Never go AI yourself with AK unless you're on teh short stack, but certainly call for half your chips when you know the betting is going to be capped.

None of those books say, play good cards but limp in. You have to risk chips to get chips. Do it with good cards. Raise your way in, and make continuation bets of 1/3 - 1/2 the pot even when the flop misses you. If you raised 4x BB preflop then the chances are it missed them too and they'll put you on a big pocket pair. If you get raised back, then fold. If you get called then be cautious. But by all means play more agressively preflop and on the flop. If you do that you have a chance to make it in the money. If you don't then you literally don't have a chance. You can't fold your way into the money on a single table SnG. And passive play will just burn off chips faster. Plus the other players see your weak play and just rape you for it.

I didnt see anything outright ridiculous.

Limped a couple times with decent hands. I guess early in the tourney that isn't always bad. But something to think about.

You can probably safely call lovelindsay's AI bet at 1581098320.

1581136820: You played your flush well but TooPearz was not giving you much of a chance to take his chips, oh well it happens. Consider pushing all in on the turn and see if the thinks you are bluffing.

1581145300 Was probably a good fold with pocket 9's into heavy preflop action.

1581165183 was a good chance to steal bluff it on the turn. You've cultivated a tight image up to this point and probably it would have worked to take a 250 pot if you just re-raised UTG's min bet.

Your 2nd to last hand and last hand, consider pushing preflop, you might be surprised.

Overall, too much limping and not enough raising. I realize that you don't have much stack to work with, especially at the end, but you need to be taking more chances and getting more aggressive, even if you don't necessarily think you've got the best hand. Case in point, 1581182203.

Keep in mind some times you just aren't getting the cards... At times like this you still have to be smart, but might consider taking more risks.

Totally agree. If you want to stay in the $5 dollar range at least find a site that has $5/ .50 SNG's. You want to keep your tourney fees in the 10% range.
