This seems somewhat of a silly idea, what do you do when someone reraises you? I suppose it works well, as long as people who have the top pair have common sense to reraise you are not behind you. Personally, I hit top pair or anything worth playing, I am going to reraise you if there is any strong draw on the board. Especially in multi-handed pots, people are going to try to isolate.

Yeah it does work a lot.

However I think it should be added that you need a GOOD read on your table to be able to make this work consistently. Aggressive players will catch on quickly and simply go over the top of you every time. You will end up paying even more for your draws.

I have used this technique with a fair amount of success. I believe I learned the outlines of the concept from Theory of Poker (buying a free card - getting a cheap card), and may have adapted it to doing exactly what Aok is saying.
It works well when top pair thinks you have top pair as well with a weaker kicker and decides that he wants to extract more bts from you...or if top pair actually does have a weak kicker and is playing passively. They sometimes seem thankful they only have to pay a small amount to see the next card.

This technique also work for getting a free card...or at least discounted card on the river if you miss the turn. If you raise a small amount and get called by TP, and the next card does not complete your draw....and is not a big threat to TP, he will often check it to you as the raiser with the intention of check raising you, but in fact you have just bought yourself a free card to try and hit that draw on the river. 2 cards for the price of 1, now that is a good deal. Two very similar concepts, that can be very effective if you do not overuse them.

I think he was talking about hands where you are first to act, in an early position. This technique could work well if the people in the hand are passive players, and will just call down with top pair. I'm going to try this technique personally in some of my SnG's, thanks for the idea ako

Just like anything in poker, it's not 100% effective. But, if you've been playing fairly tight (or if you have trapped someone previously) it works most of the time.

On the flip side, I also defend against this when I have top hand with a draw on the board. If someone bets too little to give callers bad odd, I'll raise it up to the proper amount.

I use this all the time in VC ring games, there are lots of passive players who won't raise any bet and it is a bit of disguise to my draw, though if i do hit i usually have to bet out hard on the river otherwise they'll just keep calling and i won't make any money.
"[This theory] is only useful for helping to calculate your luck odds. If you have a good read that you have a numerical advantage against your opponent, that your hand is "luckier"..."

    I agree...
I have used this play in the lower stake ring games quite effectively. I also use it preflop, minraising if I want to come in early with suited connectors but don't want to call raises from behind me. Ususally at the lower stakes people are more passive and don't reraise so much.

Exactly and a $30 tournament is low stakes. We look at micros, etc. But if you're paying $100+ to play is it really high stakes. The players are a little better in the 20-50 tourneys, but they aren't WSOP good. They play passive too. They have the same amount of chips as everyone else and don't want to thow them around willy-nilly.

I meant to say if you're Not playing 100+
