Good move/bad move?

    Default Good move/bad move?

Short-handed tournament. This is a friendly game where the stakes are that the rest of us buy dinner for the winner (we actually play at the restaurant while we eat). So I'm not playing very close to the vest, as there's very little up for grabs.

At this point there are 4 or 5 of us playing. I get pocket queens in the small blind; all the other players have limped in. My turn to act, I look over my chips, and see that I have a pretty substantial lead on the table. The blinds plus the two or three limps add up to a decent chunk. So my thought: push all in, use a decent hand to take it down now, but if I get called I don't mind at all. These guys approach these dinner games very loosely, so there's a good chance I'd get called by a weak suited ace or some such nonsense. Well, the big blind calls me, everyone else folds. He flips over pocket kings and robs me of most of my stack.

Is this a good or bad move given the game? How about in a regular (less loose) tournament that was down to 4 or 5 players? I didn't figure there was much of a chance anyone had a better hand than queens, and frankly I welcomed his call - until he turned his cards over.

    Wastin' away again in margaritaville....
If you are after the blinds and limps primarily and aren't short stacked, why not just raise a standard steal bet and re-evaluate after the flop? 4-5 players you do have a very high likelihood of having the best hand and I do not mind pushing here at all if you think you will be called by lesser hands and not just those that beat you.

    himself fucker.
Each person after the initial limper has more and more reason to raise with a hand that beats QQ.

If you expect you can get a loose call, pushing is the right move.
