Default Pot odds VS stack size on draws

My main question here is this a wise call? In this situation, my card came on the river, and the 35% change of it hitting postflop says I should call. However, if I miss, it leaves me very shortstacked, and I find I have a lot of difficulty coming back from a shortstack this early in a 3 table SnG, so I avoid these situations generally.

WHat I am thinking after is that this is a play to win game, and one should go with the odds. My bankroll is well established for playing at this level, I just hate to lose out so early in the tourney.

I had a couple reads, and knew that trdcrx played quite tight, so I knew he had a hand. Had no idea on the second guy, but figured unless I hit my flush I was toast so dumped em.

    Was this the right move?

In a tournament its often correct to fold even if the odds say you should call. Every hand you play, every decision you make should be to increase your chance of winning the tournament and not based on pot odds. You had a 65% to lose almost half of your stack, you were correct to fold. If you have a big stack then you can call.

UTG+1? I was SB, and was trying something new in another thread I head heard here about increasing stack size early in a tourney. As I remember it being read, one way to do that is to play more draw possibilities, and I realize J4s is not the best, but if I flop my flush I'm gonna go pretty hard on it.

Not trying to argue with you, just wanting some more ideas.

    Thanks for all the advice.

J4s, even in the SB with 4 limpers is pretty loose.

Although you have odds to call, they are thin. getting <4:1 on your money with ~3:1 odds to win.

This is an easy call if you have 1500 chips, but not 1000

i have learned to avoid hands like J4s in the SB as being severely out of position and victim to reverse implied odds indicates that you're either gonna win a small one or lose a big one. The cards and position make this hand unplayable.

Tight is right early in a SnG. So good fold.

The main problem with J4s is that you really couldn't have asked for a better flop, yet when you get it, you have to fold.

    Fold that joint pre flop

I agree with others that you should have folded preflop. But once you called the pot was $180, and you got an excellant flop. You definately would like to draw to the flush, but for the right price. Both all-ins for $455 made the pot $1090 giving you about 2.4 to 1 on your money. It's about 4 to 1 to hit your flush by the turn, so you're not getting good enough pots odds to call. If you do call and miss trbcrx is definately going to throw his remaining $160 in w/ top 2 pair and then you have to call. If you miss you're done and crippled early in the tournament. Easy fold here

As far as your reference to playing more drawing hands, you want to play suited connectors mainly and maybe suited connectors with one gap if the price is right. Best advice I've heard on this is "if you wouldn't play them unsuited, don't play them suited"
