Default All-In in Big Multi Table Tourney

Okay guys here is the situation. I'm playing a $100 buy in Multi table on PP, 240 entrants and we are down to the last 4 tables and 32 guys. The tournament pays down to 30th place. Now im sitting with about 6,000 in chips and im 8th in chips. Blinds are at 300/600. The player under the gun with about 6,200 in chips raises to 2,000 everyone folds around to me sitting one off the button. I'm holding A,Q offsuit. I figured if I just call here he is going most likely put me all-in after the flop, so my choices were to fold or go all-in and put the pressure on him to put in the rest of his chips. Well he calls my all-in and turns over J,J. So I figure okay I have two overcards to his J's and its pretty much a race with him ahead of me about 52% to 48%. Well the board comes 5 - 4 - 10 - 7 - 9. And I bow out of the tournament, 2 places short of the money. Now I was aiming for the final table and making at least $400 which was what 10th place was paying. 11th -30th was a payout breakdown of $240-$180. So with the thinking of I want to win this thing and a chance to double up and get into the top 3 of the chip leaders I took a shot and lost. Do you think I played this wrong, what would you have down in this situation?

I think you have to fold this... If this guy is raising UTG, JJ is probably the best think you can hope for him to have. Other likely candidates are AA, KK, QQ, AKs, AKo... they all dominate you. Your best bet was likely a cointoss. Do you really want that at this stage of the tourny?

At that stage in the tournament, most players are playing tighter than normal. I don't think that AQ is a strong enough hand to even call and early position raise at any stage, it's just not worth it.

It would be better to fold and wait for a better opportunity to lead the betting. That's not the time to be calling big raises.
