    Default Where am I??

(Crap, I got done typing this and looked up and I am in the wrong forum I really don't want to re-type it so can someone with Authoritah please move it?)

OK after the series of events that I will explain within this post I am trying to reassess where I stand as a poker player, and would like any opinion you're willing to give.

Started Feb. 4th with 50 dollars on party. yo-yo'd for a while until I started playing tighter and way more aggressively. then shot up to 300 around the beginning of march. stalled out for a while at that mark. Then around the Beginning of April I got up to 900. Thought I was on my way to making some good money. WRONG. Since then I am back down to 200. Don't know what went wrong or why. Here are some thoughts.

    1. Could be variance that got me up and then back down.

    2. Could have been really lucky for about a week and a half that got me up and my poor playing since that got me back down (I hope not but...)

    3. Could have been good play that got me up. Then I loosened up with my newfound money and lost it all back.

    4. Could have been good play and then bad luck.

I play almost exclusively sit n go's within my BR if you consider 10 Buy ins within your BR. 100= $10 SNGs 500= 50 etc.

Will post some of my HH in a future post. Really just looking to see if anyone else had a similar experience when they started.
You should never wave at people you don't know, cause what if they don't have a hand. They'll think you're cocky. "Look what I got motherfucker, this thing is useful, I'ma go pick somethin up."

If its strictly SnGs your playing, it could very well be variance, but it could also be that you moved up far to fast, going from 10$ SnG's to 50$ in a week and a half is not enough time to get used to the level of play. It is probably a combination of the two. But it is very possible to go 10 SnG's OTM.

I was winning ITM in 50 dollar SNG's about 70 % of the time after I hit $500 (which is when I went up to 50s) so I don't know about that. But it is a possibility that those two combined to get me back down to 450 (when I went back to 30 dollars). Hoping that it turns back around for me as I am back to $10's where I have about 19 buy ins currently. Also trying some 5 dollar steps to get some cheap experience. (you only have to make top 5 to get a free roll back into the first step.)

playing $50 sngs on that bankroll is essentially a gamble. That's 9 buy-ins not including rake, and you could very easily bust out of 6 of them from bad beats. So, do what you want.

    with $450 play more $5 and $10 sng's

I'd agree with most of the people in this thread that $50 SnGs with a $500 bankroll is playing too high too fast. I'm just now starting to play $30 SnGs now, though I will admit I'm a tad conservative with my SnG bankroll.

The level of the competition you'll be playing is another significant consideration. Just because you're able to beat the $20 game regularly enough to make $500 doesn't mean you can beat the $50 level with a strong regularity.

And just for the record, the best recommendation I've heard from players far more successful at SnG play than I is to try to play a game where you have 20 times the buy-in + fee. Meaning to do a $50+$5, you'd want $1100.

Something I have noticed, though. THe $50 SnG's are considerably easier than the $30 SnG's. Why? I dunno. Maybe beacuse you get an extra 200 chips and richer fish are like, "hey. I get more chips to play with. That's worth another $22 to me". I dunno, but it just seems easier to beat the $50 SnG's than the $30. Food for thought.

    Wastin' away again in margaritaville....
did you title this post before or after you realized you put it in the wrong forum?

30x buyin is a little safer if you tend to swing that much. The BR management ideas are just guidelines, you need to adjust based on your personal playing style, risk tolerance and variance amplitude.

LOL sed. To answer your question, before. Thanks for all the advice on the bankroll guys I didnt realize that 10 buy-ins was that risky. I'm gonna go back and re-read the bankroll guide again. Also I am moving to the 10 dollars again until I get to 600 (or rather, if I get to 600). That may be even more conservative than you guys suggested but if I am playing well in a certain game I have learned not to move up simply because I can. Better to continue making 50 and 30 at a time than start losing 20 or 30 or 50.
