However if you really put him on unpaired overcards, good move, but still you where 3 handed at the flop, if it was heads up maybe I would agree with the play.
with the first hand, yeah, I agree, I could easily have been dominated. I had actually laid down KQs from the SB when he raised it before, same with AJ, figuring I was dominated (the first one he showed AKs, and the second one some poor sap went all-in with AT and learned the hardway). So why call? 1) I wasn't as sure he had me dominated. I'm not sure why, but it was almost an insta-call. To be sure, i would have been concerned about my kicker if an Q or J fell, and would have been out of there really quick if a AK came. 2) I had position on him (learning the importance of position is key!)
The flop play was purely playing the player. It came down rags, but he bet out first repping a strong hand. I put him on a non-pair, figured he hadn't caught, and I knew that he was a good enough player to fold when he thought he was beat, especially since I had been showing his bets a lot of respect, I imagine he thought I wouldn't push back unless I had the goods. I also thought the other player was smart enough to get out of the way with that much aggression, unless he had a high PP or a 5. I was pretty sure I had enough fold equity for that play to be profitable against those players.
The second play was partially for table image, but also for a nice spot to double up (I would have been chip leader! -- And then I *really* could have started to play some poker ). Hey-Boy wasn't nearly as good of a player as the people in the last hand. After he bet out on the flop, I put him on Tx (AT maybe). trips didn't scare me as he would probably have tried to slow play it. Perhaps I didn't consider the flushdraw enough, but he at least seemed competent enough to know about pot-odds. Worst case, I thought, was ATc. But I also didn't want to give any cheap draws (1200 would have at least implied odds... though I may have been able to get out of cheaply if it did hit). I thought when I came back over the top of him, he would fold, and my table image would go to that of being just a bit more unpredictable than I was being for most of the game. At least I got my chips in with the best of it.
