    Default Limit Tourneys

    Hello,
I have played tourneys for some time, then i completly stoped, and now only play Limit Ring Games.
My question is ... does anyone actually takes "regular" money of Limit Tourneys ? I think that NL are just like a lottery, of course better players will place good more often, but not often enough so that i could consider it "on a regular basis"
What about Limit ? I used to place in the money around 25% of the time, but due to a poor sample (i dont think i've played more then 50 Limit Tourneys) i dont really know if thats a % i can relly on.
Even with 25%, i got a 2º place on a big one once, that paid 2k, other then that i didnt get any significant gains (they paid the buy-ins)
Anyone else who wants to comment Limit Tourneys ?
    Any help is apreciated

    Default What me? No Limit?

Well, my personal opinion. I hate limit games, they require little skill and a lot of luck, you actually have the the other way around. In limit games its quite very much like gambling for this reason, its so cheap to call it down to the river, so hench people will call you down to the river almost everytime half the time hitting there crap hand and beating you out, this has happened to me so many times, not only online but in real life as well. In NL theres ways to put people with those crap hands out, trust me anyone that will play a crap hand in Limit games will not play them in NL when a strong bet comes. As for Tourneys, there payout is well very well indeed for such a low buy in, for instance the Party Poker mini step tournaments, its only 6 dollars to buy in a 2k tournament, i think thats a sweet deal seeing as of right now I am going into lvl 4 (starting from first) just within 3 days getting 1st in all of them, granted i have played a few rerolls in first and second round. Anyways i guess it could come down to your kind of playing style if you win with Limit stick with it, just go with what your good at and stay with it.

Dude... no offense, but if this is your view of limit hold'em then you know relatively little (read: next to nothing) about how limit holdem works. There are many people (Fnord is a great example) who make their livings off of limit poker. Are you suggesting he is just lucky? Some would argue that it takes more skill to win at limit poker, since you don't have the silver bullet "all-in" play. Limit poker requires more "skillfull" plays to make flush draws unprofitable for other players, to increase pot equity, to protect hands.... You have to have a much better understanding of odds to be a successful limit player.

I prefer NL tournaments, and the skills I have gained in my limit experience has helped me immeasurably. I'd suggest learning a thing or two about it before making statements like this. Try reading SSH.... that alone should help you see the errors of your ways.

I have played a couple limit tournaments. The initial dropoff of idiots is slower, since they can't go all in with their A7 powerhouses. Other than that there are many similarities to NL tournaments.

i think that NL is definatley the harder then L because of the all-in potential. However Limit hold'em is definately the harder to win at. Any retard can win at NL by just pushign and getting lucky, but it takes alot of discipline and critical thinking to be a successful limit player

devolved into another stupid limit/nolimt thread ... nuff said

limit mtts play like NL mtts except the fish last longer, and MORE luck is required to win them. The later you get the more like NL it is, good players dont rely on AI moves anyway, and when the BB gets to be a significant portion of ppls stacks u can feel the change. Bluffing starts to work, it becomes a high stakes limit game with small bankrolls, so play it like that.

as to the whole skill/luck stuff, limit is a science and NL is an art. there are very few good artists, lots of good engineers. Also there are alot more crappy NL mtt players because of WOSP and whatnot. So good NL players get better returns on thier MTTs than good limit players, skill only gets u so far in limit mtts. In cash games good players can win lots in either. so anyone who thinks NL mtts are a crap shoot, is not a good player.

    I could not agree more.
