Generic AK question

    Default Generic AK question

    2nd hand in an SNG

you hold AhKd on the button. There are 3 limpers.
What do you raise? Iv seen an assortment of ideas about how to play this hand preflop.
    You can raise 3xBB + 2xLImpers
    i.e. 15/30 with 3 limpers would be, 90+180 = 270.
But is it really worth it to overbet it so much preflop when the stakes are so low?
Or you can stick to the conventional 3-5xBB? But sometimes with multiple limpers you are giving them great odds to call if you just raise to 5xBB. How do you compensate for limpers?

    Post flop (15/30)
You are on the button. You made it 4xBB and there are 2 other people in the flop with you.
    Pots at 120+30+15 = 165.
The flop misses you completely, 9cTs2s. First to act bets 40, then second to act calls. What do you do? Iv been folding these types of hands and I'm not sure if its a leak or not. At about 5:1 pot odds, I have 6 outs, but so many turn cards are scare cards and I am bound to fold on the turn to any bet if an A or a K doesnt fall. Is it a good fold to just get out of the way? Sometimes I will get a bit more aggro and reraise, would you reraise?

Essentially my post flop question can be rephrased like this. Its post flop and you are last to act, someone has bet before you taking away your betting impetus as the preflop raiser. What do you do? I know someones going to say, IT DEPENDS. Yes I know it depends, please give me some examples and tell me how it depends in that situation. Also remember that this is early on and I have no clue how people are playing their flush draws, straight draws, and TPNKs.

yes! if some guy wants to call off 15% of his stack trying to hit his set or with a dominated hand, let him do it. i think you don't really need to 'raise for value' here because chips are as necessary early on in a SNG, money is won by playing well on the bubble.

If there are 3 limpers u hold a good strong hand do not limp..

AK is crap against a pot of more than HU. I sometimes will just push all in to see where i stand..

I could never push all in early with A/K. I usually make a raise of 2.5 the BB early. If an A or K shows up on the flop I am in good shape to extract some more chips, if it misses I can easily get away from the hand. Not going to force anything when the blinds a small.

    Here's my postflop answer...RAISE

Your in late position. One guy is drawing, and the other guy is weak. Represent high pocket pair. Double or triple his postflop bet. You have position so use it. You'd be surprised how many time they'll fold to your unimproved AK.

    Raising achieves several things...

    1. They both might fold right there

    2. You can potentially isolate yourself against a draw when/if the weak 40 bet caller folds.

    3. You can save money on later streets. It's just like limit hold em. Your buying a free look at the river. Now when no A or K pops on the turn, they'll check to you. Now you can choose to attempt a steal or check to see your river.

    4. You confuse your opponent. If an Ace pops and he has one your going to take a significant portion of his stack. He now think he outdrew you to top pair.

    5. You create precise reads for yourself. What this means is if one of these guys now bets strong on the turn, you know they're not attacking weakness because you acted strong previous to the turn. Now a big bet means only one thing... Your beat.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.
