4 Months of giving away money...plz help!

I am sick.. I have been buying in $50 a week for the last 4 months and loosing it all in 5.50 (and a few 10-1)SnG single/multi-table tourneys. There must be a million leaks in my ship. Please help me to patch a few. i have won several sng's, but at the end of the day I walk away down $$...Here is the last multitable sng I lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I started out depositing in little "sips" like this, and don't think it pays.

You need to get a proper bankroll together. You're putting >10% of your balance in any given SNG. This is not good for the head, even if you feel like you're playing level.

If you only have $50 to go with, do penny NL at stars or prima and build it up that way.

well i read the first 6 hands and it's pretty obvious why you're losing money. You can't play this loose aggressive type game at the 5 and 10 dollar sng level. The people that DONT know you're bluffing will still call with there inside straight draws and flush draws. You should practice playing tight-aggressive and learning to lay down hands. It may be more boring for you, but it won't cost you so much money .

Don't open with A9 from early position, treat it like a blind stealing hand and a blind protecting hand basically.

Start using your position to help you out more. Don't open with weak hands in erly position because hands that dominate you will call you and take all your chips.

Thanks for trhe feedback...can you please help me understand what makes my play loose-aggressive vrs. tight aggressive? And if that meens only playing lvl 1 & 2 hands (which I hardly never get) then how do you win tourneys?

okay i can give you a general rule for tight play, and i'm not sure if everyone agree's but this is how i play it.

with low blinds and a medium stack..

from early positoin(2-3 to the left of big blind)
I'll raise with AK-AQ, 99-AA
and Limp with KQ, KJ, AJ, every other pocket pair

middle position ( same as ep , but i might raise lower pocket pairs or AJ )

late position - you can get much more loose here and play A-10 and raise with any of the hands listed above..

Basically just play your cards off the flop. Don't bluff too much. If you raised pre-flop, go ahead and throw a 2/3 pot - pot bet out if its checked to you. I wouldn't start bluffing until the rewards are actually worth it. You have to decide what your strategy is going to be. I like to treat early game as a building time. I try and build up a decent stack so that I'm in position to be able to steal some blinds and put pressure on the smaller guy's. Read all the tourny advice on this page, but don't go out and try and be like them right away. You really don't seem to have the read power to be able to do it yet. plus like they say, you can't bluff retards

If you stick to these opening hands you will get yourself in a lot less trouble, and have a lot less hard decisions to make. Good luck man!

Oh, and be weary about calling raises with the weaker of the hands like AJ,KQ,KJ,A-10 and so on. That will get you into big trouble also.

Also, it's not uncommon for good players to play 4 MTTs a night and go a few weeks without scoring a big win. All the money for these tournies is in the top 3 places. You should be supplementing your MTT play with 5.50 SnGs, which are easy to beat with just fundementally sound play.

Yeah, I only read the first couple summaries on the hands where you went out. The hands you go out on aren't even playable hands unless you have some very good reads on the people you're playing against and you know you can outplay them. You need to start folding a lot more. Also don't go all in on a bluff. Make a small bet on the flop to see where you stand. Did they call quick? What are they staying in with? Did they miss a draw? etc.

On poker starts - play the 1st 4 levels for value - only bluff when you are pretty sure your oponnent will fall (busted str8/flush draws etc...)

Read,re-read and read again the sticky posts by Radashack, DavSimon and Ripptyde! They are life changing And constantly check out the tournament threads on FTR. This place is a gold mine of great tips and insight for SNG and MTTs

Having just went through the same circumstances as a newbie, I'll through my two cents worth in.

Stop what you are doing and do the following things:

1. Order Harrington on Hold 'em or pick it up at your local book store.

2. Keep depositing your $50 a week into an online accont. Check various other threads on this site as to which online account might be best for you. I would say stay away from Party Poker and it's skins if you want to work on your SnG play. Party tends to handicap you with fewer starting chips and blind increases by number of hands instead of time.

3. While you're waiting for your book to come in, read the sticky threads about tournaments and bank roll management.

4. Keep depositing you bank roll.

5. When you get hold of your book, read it. Then read it again. It does a great job of explaining different types of playing styles as well as a simple plan of attack to NL Hold 'em.

6. Once you bankroll gets up high enough and you have finished re-reading Harrington. Sit down an play a SnG. When your done, whether you finished ITM or first out, take out a notebook and write down what you did well, what you didn't do well and what you learned about betting patterns and players during that SnG.

Some examples might be:
* While playing at a loose table with lots of callers or pre-flop raising, it's better off to throw away pocket 2's, 3's and 4's from early position.

* Be weary of stealing blinds when people have limped in before you.

* Play fewer hands when most people at the table are playing many and vice versa.

If you have a question, post it on FTR. Hand history for you question is even better. It gives people all the information about that hand in one easy to read fromat. And remember that every table will have a different feel for it. So look for the reasoning behind the answers given, for that is much better than the answer itself.
