    Default Movin' on up... maybe.

So a few days ago, I moved up from the $5 sngs on Stars to the $10 ones. Here's how the first 7 have gone:

    1st - 2
    2nd - 2
    3rd - 3

    ITM% - 100%

Is this just a statistical anomaly? I believe that I am not catching a ton of cards, I'm just playing very well. One of those 1sts happens to be one where I was running a bit hot. I've been able to trust my reads and take down pots that I shouldn't. I'm playing to win and I'm not squeaking my way ITM.

How long should I play the $10s? I'm almost bankrolled for the $20s. Is there much of a difference between those levels?

it's an anomaly. You're obviously playing well, but ITM 100% is 100% not sustainable. If you move up to the 20s, be prepared for a downswing (due to variance, not necessarily better play). I'd go a bit higher than what you need before you move up just because you're on such an upswing.
    If I had a hammer
    I'd drop in the morning
    I'd drop in the evening..

Nice start at the $10 SnGs! I am really close to moving to the $20 SnG for the same reason, I have bumped up my Bankroll to a level that justifies it. 100% is sweet...savor it and prepare to drop to something more realistic

If you just moved up to $10 stay there a while. Quickest downfall for players is the damn I'm good let's move up and make even MORE money mentality (I know cuz I've done it - and still get tempted to do it).

Speaking of that, what is the suggested BR for SNGs? I really have been varying my games a bit lately - I was focusing on 3/6 limit for a long time. I'm now playing a lot more SNGs and MTTs.

homer, sine beginnin online play 2 and half months ago I started out at the 5$ 1 table sng's and now play the 3 table 30$ sng's. I can't say I noticed a big difference in the level of play at all. It's just as bad at the 30 dollar level as the 5 dollar level. However, variance can KILL your bankroll if you move up to fast. There is way to many stupid plays being made that will cause you to take bad beats.

Either way, if you're bankrolled for 20, go ahead, move up! I don't think you'll see any difference in skill level.

Actually, I've done this once before when I first started on PokerRoom. Played the $5s, won a bunch, moved up to the $10s, bye bye bankroll. That's why I'm a lot more confident this time.

Suggested bankroll for SNGs is around 15 times the buyin. I'm thinking I will stick to the $10s until I have more like $500 for the $20s.

    himself fucker.
You're sample size is huge! But, you can move if your bankroll is big enough. There's really no shift in skill.

There are fish playing $100 SnGs! Each level is a range of skill but there are real good players feasting at every level. To me it is really a BR question....

If you have 12-15x the buy-in in your BR then bump up to the next level.

As long as you don't change your play because of the buy-in. If you don't think you are emotionally ready to handle 3 losses in a row at $20.....don't go.

Id stick with 20-25 buyins. Especially if you are going to be playing there for a long term. Its possible to drop 10-15 buyins in a whim. Also the higher the stacks, the higher ur BR should be. Just becuase your variance will probably be higher.

And yes, Ur mental state is more important than any bankroll state.

I totally agree with this. I like 20 buyins myself, if I lose a few there isnt the stress of "having" to make ITM.
