Default One of first couple SnG's. Definately could use some tips

Okay. I'm generally a tight player so tight is right is fine with me early. I can't seem to break out of it when the players stop dropping out. I probably got pushed out of alot of hands, I'll try my best to pick the few, but best hands. I finished 10 out of 45 here.

First hand of the tourney and I get a nut flush, lol. I don't think I played it right though, raising on the turn seemed stupid to me after I did it.

Okay you can rag on me for this one, lol. Pot odds weren't for me hitting the flush but I went with it anyway. Then the turn came and it had full house written all over it. The guy was pushing me around all game so hitting the flush would of helped make him think twice.

Biggest part I see was that looking through the whole HH, I couldn't find one instance where I bluffed. I'm usually too timid too unless I get a big stack to push with.
  2. #2
#1 - why not raise if you have position? You don't have a strong
hand but a nice solid raise will eliminate your opponents and
increase your chance of winning the pot - you may even win it
    right there.

min raise after the flop and work it up from there. You want
to get paid on each card and get the opps to mentally convince
themselves that they have a strong hand.

#2 - you need to raise them at the flop and try and get the pot early.
AJs is still a hand that can be beaten by a small pair. I would have raised it to 80 after the flop. Don't let them get cheap draws.

#3 - again, raising at the flop would be a good choice here. Don't
let them get that draw. You'll see other plrs doing it to you. You have a drawing hand, they bet on the flop, you fold and then your draw gets turned over. You need to do the same thing to them.
  3. #3
Okay. Yeah I only used to raise my really good hands or a moderate one in position. I guess I should open my standards for which hands I raise.

My thought process was if I have nothing and I'm not last to act, I don't bet in fear of what the last person might have. Yeah I'm definately changing that attitude.

Thanks alot for taking time to critique my game. I appreciate it alot. I'm definately developing a more tight-aggresstive style than tight or even rock-ish.
    pulling a courtiebee pŏŏl-ĭng ā kôrt-ē-bē (verb phrase):
    1. overvaluing mid pocket pairs
    2. knowing you should fold, but donkishly calling or raising anyway
  4. #4
#1 - Normally I'd say fold this, but if you know how to play it right i can pay off...flopping a flush for example lol. Since you have 3 limpers in front of you and the SB and BB are in, your odds are good. If you just hit an ace here, you need to be really careful, you could be outkicked and lose a lot of chips.

#2 - Some more aggression would be good in this situation. You dont have to go crazy, but most people are playing pretty tight when the blinds are 10/20. You have position and 1st guy bets 20, 2nd calls, I would try raising to around 100 or so. I think you would just take the pot right there, I wouldnt expect someone to be calling a 3xbb raise with a ten in their hand.

#3 - I dont like that big of a raise with only AJ. A 3xbb raise or just a limp is what I would consider. Dont bother repping the flop this early on in the tourney, I like to start pulling that stuff towards the final table or shorthanded.

#4 - Well played, but thats a risky move. From the BB with top pair weak kicker on a flop like that is dangerous. If somones got a queen your probably dominated, plus theres a straight and flush draw out there. Nicely played though, you made their draws way to expensive to call.

#5 - I think you got as many chips as you could there, I dont put whitestalion on that great of a hand, maybe JT or something. If he checked the flop and bet that ace, I might re-raise him to see if he really has that ace. Then if he bets again on the river, I might try an even bigger raise...maybe around 1000.

#6 - I dont think theres anyway he had the jack, or 7 for that matter...I'm thinking a mid pocket pair (55, 66, 88) If you picked up on any tells on this guy during the tournament, I might actually think I have the best hand at this point. You might have it sealed on the turn with 2 pair ace kicker, but thats just a gut feeling. I'd like to know how some others feel about this.

Most people arent going to bet 700 after its checked to them when they have trips. (Or if he has 77) Then when you show weakness again on the turn, he pushes even harder. I think most people who hit trips in this situation might throw out another 700, or lower, to get as many chips as possible. I'm just getting the feeling like he really wants you out of this hand, not that he has a great hand.
  5. #5
Wow. Thanks fjuanl. Makes me feel like I did almost the right thing in most situations.

Yeah I overvalued AJ a couple times early in this tourney, but I guess I got away with it. I know a little better now.

For the last hand, that's what I was possible thinking too. Who bets trips? He's been betting the flop hard on many occassions when aganisted stacks much shorter than his so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a smaller pair, flush draw, or all out bluff.

On the hand where I had the queen, they all only called after my bet. So it's either a lower pair, flush draw, or possible straight draw. So when that turn came that helped no one, yeah I just bet enough to make it hard for them to see the river.

I probably should of put a bet after the river, but I didn't know what to think of that 7. I didn't even think of having the best hand by kicker, but yeah that hand confused me alot.

Thanks again for taking your time to critque my play.

  6. #6
Hand#1: NIce catch, I did not really like the min raise on the turn, I would either smooth call it or raise more

Hand #3: If you raised PFR I would probably take a stub at the pot after the flop - 60 or 80 bet to try to take it there, I would fold to a reraise.

Hand #4: You got a tricky flop, TPMK with both a str8 and a flush draw on board, and you are out of position.
Your flop bet was weak, on a 550 pot you bet 150, thats not enough to scare the draws, and even 2nd/3rd pair has pot odds to call to try to catch two pair or trips, bet it more agressivly.

Your turn bet was also too weak, you bet 350 to 1150 pot, I would bet at least 500 if I felt I had the best hand

    Hand#5: Very well played

Hnd #6: As you said you had no reason to call the 700 bet

  7. #7
    Thanks alot TLR.

Yeah after reading the analysis I started using the PFR more to my advantage. I have definately won more pots that way.

I guess I bet how weak my hand was on #4. I'll act stronger on that next time.
