    Default Play MTT like SnG?

I've been thinking about ways to adjust my MTT play to try and actually get more consistent and ITM. At SnG's I'm around 60% winner and around 85% ITM but in MTT's I normally bust out at around the 25% field left mark.

One of the ways I am thinking of is treating whatever table I'm at the same as a SnG table and just focus on playing the people at it in the way I usually do, ignoring the rest of the MTT field.

I think I focus too much on the rest of the field, for example constantly checking my overall position, chip leader count, average stack count, where I am in relation to low stacks on other tables (normally start getting concerned if my chip count is around the same as a low stack on another table) and this could be a way of focusing on my game in the now, rather than my game compared to others.

Has anyone else tried a similar system for MTT's and has it had any benefit for you if you have?

i think that might be an interesting tactic, but it is always nice to consider how you are faring in relation to the big picture. i think the only way you can get anywhere in a mtt is by observing how your table is acting, and reacting accordingly, so sng play will definitely apply. im still tryin to figure out the way i like/should/need to play mtt's. you should read aok's post, if you havent already done so, because its filled with craploads of good info. im not an expert or anything by any means, but shit, if you try it and it works for you, why stop?

anyone think that im somewhat close here?

Yeah, read that post of AoK's and got a lot out of it that I'm looking to try this weekend with some WSoP qualifiers, think that I'll combine that with this new philosophy and see how I go.

In regards to keeping track of position and how the table is comparing to others, I think that given it's possible to be changed on tables a fair few times, that I'll try to look at that only during the breaks where checking it out won't break my concentration on my table play.

I actually think this is what you SHOULD be doing. You can ONLY play the players on your table and can do NOTHING to influence what goes on on the rest of the tables.

And, yes, reading Aok's post is a must. Here you can still focus on what you need to do in the bigger picture, but without constantly looking over your shoulder for Largest and Avg. Stacks. Equate your progress to your stack size compared to the blinds and have in mind a rough figure that you need to get to firstly ITM, then play from there.

If you are not paying attention to what is going on on your table, you will inevitably miss opportunities to steal blinds and push weaker players about and take their chips.
