    Default $5 SnG at Party

    Should I have pushed PF?

    After the flop?

All I know is that I played it wrong.

standard raise pre flop, putting him in I think makes your hand look weaker than it really is, but either is a better play than limping.

I think you played it almost right at this level on this site. You have to be careful about pushing into a potentially loose low stack, because they're liable to call with any ace or king in hand.

I would have bet this flop. Low stacks are loose preflop, but much tighter postflop. You wait until a flop hits to push one out. Bet 100 chips and see if he folds. He probably would have. If he calls or raises then play it from there.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

because they're liable to call with any ace or king in hand

I don't get it, you would rather limp and make sure they have to play their overs, and then hope for an 8 high flop? With his low stack he's moving if he gets any piece after you limp in. You want to get called by A8 here... with the stacks I think you have to be OK playing against overs as well.

I think you're misunderstanding my point

I agree with NOT limping with 99. This is a very unique fragile situation however. The problem is the fine line between raising here and committing the lowstack. 99 is a great hand to steal blinds with. Offer up a hefty 3-4x raise and watch them surrender. If he does that here the small stack will push. You don't want that happening. The problem is our hero is not in a position where he should be racing with 99 for half of his stack.

99 is a classic preflop hand. In this case under these circumstances it becomes more of a missed flop gem for our hero. What he wants to do is shave a little off the top of the low stack by playing the hand properly in a specific situation. Limping is not a horrible plan when you consider the variables. At the most you raise to 200, but you still run the risk of antagonizing the low stack into racing.

I would make a standard raise of 3x BB, no way I am limping. No way I push either. A 3x BB raise looks stronger then an all-in. If he goes all-in over the top....fine. Most of the time I know I am now in a race trying to avoid an A or K hitting.

We just view the situation differently, I think you're going to have to win a flip or two to get back in this, may as well start now against the low stack. If you don't want to race, I'd agree with the limp.

I'm setting him all in here preflop. 50% chance of him calling here and 99 beats a random hand comprehensively. Also, you need chips yourself, here's your chance.

think ahead on what ahppens on the flop if you just raise. Think ahead to what happens if you just call. Think about what yoru stack size will be in both situations after you play out this hand.

    Gabezor quoted for truth.
