    Default Blogs from FTR stars

    Yo-

I fucking LOVE this site! LOVE, like more than my TiVo. LOVE. If I could fuck this site, I would have already done it by now, then I would make sweet love to it. Since I found it a couple of months ago, I have spent at least 5-10 hrs/week on it. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Everyone on the forums are helpful in some way (explicitly or implicitly) and the sense of community here is the strongest online that I've found. So thanks for that.

Now my suggestion: hook up the prolific posters w/ blogs. I would love it if the 'rilla, Fnord and Rippy did articles from time to time (I think they do, and they're stickied, but I can't sign up for the stickies in an RSS reader and they're not really easy to findm at least not as easy as blogs make them to be). Not that I don't appreciate their presence in the forums, I just think that blogs would supplement them a lot. I have learned more from those three than anyone else period. What they could do is just sound off every couple of weeks on the sensibilities that they're picking up on the forums: trends, peeves, new inspirations or innovations, that sort of thing. I'm not in any way suggesting that they stop showing up in the forums, they gotta stay there! I would just like to see them given an opportunity to publish content that is more broadcast and less conversational in nature, given their obvious committment to the site and expertise of the game. It would be the ultimate one-two punch of poker power.

I'd be up for writing articles if people would read them.

A lot of my energies are being focused into a little hand history project.

But after that and school, I could totally get into articles and a blog.

i think i am going to start a xanaga blog and link it up

maybe rilla oughta make a sticky where you are only allowed to post a link to your blog and that way people could scroll down, see your AV, recognize you from your posts, and see what you have to say about the game.

    great idea alias

Hey The Cheat (in my best strongbad voice)-

I think a sticky of individual poker blogs is a good idea. It would serve as a directory of sorts. Also, encouraging people to include a link to their blog location in their signature would also help. I know that if I read a post that I really liked here and the author had a link right there for me to follow it would be a definite increase in traffic. Maybe it's better to leverage the URL field in the user Profile area and start making that accessible (not sure if phpBB can allow this attribute to be public on a system level, or if it would be up to individuals. Either way, clarifying which method is best would help).

Oh, thought I'd mention that this topic wasn't intended to demand blogs from the site sysadmins, just suggest: maybe they already have considered how blogs could be used here and they're way ahead of us. I just know from personal experience that they're a quick and dirty addition that is high in value.

Just tried to enter a URL in my website field of my Profile and it didn't publish that link on my Avatar area like it does for location. So if it's not a system allowable setting to publish that in the Avatar area, signatures is the way to go. The memberlist shows URL info when a user has populated the field, but the memberlist isn't really useful given the sheer volume of accounts here: it's hard to browse.

Jesus People! Quit PM'ing me to post a blog! I'm a very busy man. I'll do it sometime when I get a little more time. Until then... simmer down groupies.

Blogs are for losers and those that waste time writing them are better off playing poker...

r u kidding? anyone w/ a pimp avatar has a blog i want to read. i get the point though, so let me clarify the request: i would like to read blogs from everyone here, the mods were the first ones i had in mind. but if FTR members have blogs i would love to start reading them. i am sure there are more than a few members who would maintain really helpful blogs.

    blogs. . . are retarded.

Now, what we need is a place, online perhaps, where people go and write about their daily progress and such. Maybe just talk about their feelings and these places would also be updated pretty frequently, probably daily.

This is what I say to blogs:

Jeff, man, ahsimmah down now. I understand the sarcasm in your most recent post on this thread, but perhaps you didn't see how I'm actually suggesting blogs as a supplementary improvement, and not a drastic replacement.

Of course this forum is the heart of this site, no one is arguing that with you. Blogs could serve a niche that forums cannot: pure content, straight from authors who users trust, that is not littered w/ such helpful comments as

Definition: Blog a public web site where users post informal journals of their thoughts, comments, and philosophies, updated frequently and normally reflecting the views of the blog's creator.
