Default How do I bet this turn?

Well, First of all, I wouldnt have much of a question if I didn't have a short stack at the beginning of this hand. I bet about 3/4 of the pot to see if my TPTK was good while trying to induce a call......However on the turn there is about $4.90 in the pot, now how much do I bet here?

I wasnt sure how much to bet so that I could push out the straight draw I though he was on.....however I didnt want to commit myself where I would have to call a re-raise. The only way I thought I could get out of this hand if I felt I was beat on the turn was to check or bet a small amount, and obviously this was out of the question. So since I couldn't decide, so I just pushed......although knowing that most often than not, only a hand that beats me calls there?....Any suggestions, or did I do okay?

why would you push the second a scare card comes out? thats like pushing once a flush hits and you have a set...its exactly what you shouldn't do, i dont quite get it. i dont think pushing is the right answer when you "cant decide what you should do." you should have just bet normally, if he was on a draw he only had 1 card to come so just give him bad pot odds so at least if he misses you can make an extra bet off him, and if he raises you you can decide whether to fold or not, giving yourself an extra bet back.

I don't see anything wrong with how you played the hand.

there wasnt anything really wrong with the play, i just dont like that he said "i couldn't decide what i should do so i just pushed." sounds like that will lose you a ton of money with that outlook.

Well the reason I said that is because my stack size left was a little under the pot at the time. This is the bet I would NORMALLY make if my stack size wasnt short at the beginning of the hand which I said in the first sentence.....since my normal bet WAS pushing in this case, thats why I said that....

I was just curious since I didnt have much of a stack left, could I have bet a fair amount giving him bad odds while not commiting myself to this hand?

yeah you could have bet like 3, if he on an OESD he only has 1 card to come which is about 16%. and the pot would be 7.75 so he would not be getting good odds. even as little as $2 would still be laying him incorrect odds with 1 card to come.

Say I bet 3, and he calls, then I only have about $1.55 in about an $11 pot.
Wouldn't I be pot committed?...If not, when are you?

He could bet $3, or he could go all-in which is basically the same exact bet. Going all-in is easier.

ok you bet 3, and he calls. river comes and its a blank, you bet the rest, he folds. theres 3 more dollars you won from him because you didnt go all in and scare him off. but obviously you are pot committed, but that doesnt really matter. if he hits his straight then so be it, id rather him hit his straight and have $1.50 left than 0. dont worry about your stack or how much you have put in the pot, what is in the pot is not yours anymore, it doesnt matter. being pot committed doesnt matter in this situation, you have the best hand. i think you should bet just over the odds he needs to call, so it is more likely that he will call, which is a mistake by him. making your opponents make mistakes is how you make money. you dont want to bet your entire stack here because he is less likely to call, earning you less money. dont make it improbable for your opponents to make a mistake by going all in and scaring them off.
