    Default Beat by higher straight...

Had it not been for this, and one other hand, I would have ended the evening by doubling up rather than being a little down. Was this just a little stupid/unlucky, or was I being really stupid? On the turn I knew I had it, but didn't want to scare him off. On the river, I'm thinking AK beats me... but there's no way he has it...

I bet the flop to try and buy it/build a little pot. I definitly bet the turn very frequently. It feels like you want him to river something but they usually dont even have outs to make a good second best hand in these situations. Just waiting for the river to bet will either doom the pot to be a tiny pot in your favor or a huge pot against you.

So you would even have bet the gutshot on the flop? What size of bet? Would you lay it down on a reraise?

Makes total sense. I'm sure I've read similar thoughts many times before now in the beginner forum, but I guess it takes losing money to make it really stick with you. Hopefully I've got this concept now.

Lead the flop for 15, it's called a continuation bet. If op whiffs on the flop, he'll fold. Of course you fold to a raise.

exactly..lead out with a good bet on the flop, like 'rilla said if they didnt catch they will fold, if they come over the top lay it down, if they call, hope u hit the draw lol

Also, on the river there's no value in the reraise. When your opponent raises you, just call, since it's obvious you're at best going to split the pot.
