Im assuming then that if you reraised to 500, and he pushed over you, you would fold?

Well you've got position on him and the blinds if they call. Really depends on the flop and what the other guy does. I'd assume BB calls the min raise and checks the flop. Now this guy raising is likely to bet on any flop. if you hit the set, you play it however you want. If not, depends on how much the flop bet is. If he min bets the flop, I'd like to raise. my wimpy play would end on the flop though. Just can't call all the way with 7's. It's either raise or fold from my point of view.

ahhhhh so many situations that could happen.

I guess my point is no, I wouldn't check/fold if I missed the set. if he min raised with something decent and the flop is poop, you likely have the better hand.

I would seriously consider folding it, the main reason being that there are still players left to act and a raise behind you is going to make you vomit. 200 is more than 10% of your stack and unless you think you can take the pot off him without hitting your set I dont really think its worth it, because its not guaranteed that you will get all his chips if you hit. If it was a loose passive table and you were sure you would get one or two extra calls (NOT RAISES) behind you then it might be worth it. Small pocket pairs just dont play too well HU for my liking, I want a multiway pot or a very loose aggressive opponent with them so that I know I will get paid off when I hit. Keep in mind that I am used to slower blinds so I can afford to be more patient.

yeah also depends on if you think you'll get raised. If the 2 after you are raisers, dumping it isn't bad. But like I said before, A lot of it depends on what happens on the flop, since you have the button.

oh btw, another guy suggested a raise. While I don't think it's a horrible play, the min raiser is calling or raising 99% of the time. And if you don't hit your set you just lost a lot of chips. If he's calling your 500, your only move to win is probably to push on the flop. And if he calls...middle pair usually isn't going to win it.

As the blinds are up to 100 and you've lost a few players I assume you have played quite a few hands with this guy? How has he played so far? What other hands has he raised with, etc, etc? What is your table image? I'd assume still tight...correct?

that's what i'd do unless the flop is a rainbow 8 or 9 high. then i'd take a stab at it.

dont need to get to risky with a decent chip stack by raising at that time.
    pulling a courtiebee pŏŏl-ĭng ā kôrt-ē-bē (verb phrase):
    1. overvaluing mid pocket pairs
    2. knowing you should fold, but donkishly calling or raising anyway

This play depends a lot on the read that you have of this player...does he min raise with weak hands or does he min raise to trap...If he min raises b/c hes weak then simply re raise and hope for a weak call by him out of position, then bet the flop and youll propbably take it down, if hes trying to trap i would either call looking for the set or simply foild either is fine IMO

i call. if i set, i raise the flop. if i miss the third 7 i probably just call his flop bet unless it's something outrageous then decide if i have the best hand on the turn or not.
