    dsaxton,

For the sake of a noob's education, could you explain what you were seeing, thinking, why you played it this way, etc?

At this stage in my development, I see a hand like that with an A on the board AND a flush draw, and I cannot see myself ever making that call. There were so many ways you could have been beat. HOW DID YOU KNOW?

    Please please please?

He checked the flop and then called on the turn, which suggested a draw, so I checked to him to induce a bluff on the river knowing that he missed. He made a huge overbet, which, unless he was a big idiot, couldn't have been a value bet because I'd shown weakness by checking.

Would he have played 33 differently? (asking, looking for insights)

33 folds on the turn. 4 overs plus three to the flush out, not a good time to try and draw to a set.

He would've folded 3-3 on the turn. Plus, he wouldn't just go all-in on the river with a set after I check; he'd make a bet I could call.

It was a gamble call, but a good call nonetheless, if you're ok with losing this someimes. Some people are smart enough to do this with a good hand thinking that YOU think that THEY have nothing.

Very rarely. Smart players make callable value bets.

    What's a callable value bet?

    No, really.

well-played. your opponent was crazy not to bet the draw on the flop. A large enough bet, repping the A, and you're folding, I would guess.

People let me tell you about my best friends...
I don't have the combination of confidence in reads and brass balls to make that call--even when I'm 60-70% certain it's a steal...well done.
