Assuming he's your classic smart TAG player of the sort I see at 100/200 NL..

He's either semi-bluffing (possiblity since he has position on you), or he's got AA or KK or a set. I would probably call. If he bets again on the turn for a large amount you can rule out the semi-bluff (which would run the free card play here and check) and fold. I just dont see a jack making this big of a raise against an EP PFR (early position pre-flop raiser)

ok, that's basically what i was looking for. he had kings. it didn't seem like he'd play a set so hard, the kings totally blindsided me. nobody's limped kings at me forever. is this more common as the stakes get higher?
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

oh yes, quite common, doesnt suprise me he had kings.. he smooth called with position to get maximum value from his hand.

ok, i'll have to keep that in mind. so, you slowplay aces and kings into a raise with position most of the time? don't you worry about getting outflopped for too cheap or you just use your post-flop skills to do what you gotta do? what if an ace falls when you have kings, when you're now not in a dominant position for him to buy you have the ace?

When you smooth call here, you have position, a very strong hand, and the element of suprise. Thats a hard combination to beat.

I would have put him on AcJc.
KK would have been an eye opener for me too.

I lost a hand almost exactly like this last night at 100NL. I've been so used to people with KK trying to raise you right out preflop I never even considered the possibility the opponent had KK. Made sense he played it though, this was a really loose table and he was looking for someone to make the first move. I think he made a good play here considering table conditions. Stupid for me to write the whole table off as LAggy as he wasn't and got my whole buy-in as a result.

Served as a good reminder to keep my head up for such plays though instead of unconciously completely writing that hand off as only being played one way.
