I don't think it's horrible as a steal, you have a fair chance against calling hands. I don't think you do that hoping to get called tho...most calling hands have you 70/30 (Ax, x>9, pp >= 9)

I didn't want a caller, but I would have tolerated one. On a 7-handed table, my effective M was (1450 / 225) * 0.7 = 4.51, a situation where A9s is an extremely nice hand in an unraised pot and one where you are aiming to either double up or at least steal the blinds without playing after the flop.

Call me a 2+2 monkey, but I would have merely checked that had I not read HoH2.

Well I pushed, and I didn't consider the idea of both limpers having callable hands to be a very plausible one...
