Hey all, Just wanted to post my n00bie $1 tournie on here to get any
critiques that anyone was willing to offer....I know its a lot so I will
take any comments on any amount large or small.

I felt like I played well for most, barring a few mistakes...and a few
lucky breaks. But I came so close to my first Final Table if the last
KK hand woulda came through.

Guess id want to see that flop too. do you get 1K starting chips? Even then its not so bad.

hand 2.
Not so sure about the big stack here. Prob a pp maybe even AQ? doubt AJ or he'd have bet. Nothing wrong with the play, good aggression. Your trying to isolate which is what you did.

Hand 4.
Too much of your stack to even consider a call.

Hand 5
Cant decide. If you flat call it it looks weak? good and you might get a caller behind with a marginal hand, like two face cards at the same time those chips are a nice amount to add to your stack so maybe pushing was just making pretty sure you won the hand.

Hand 6.
Quite simple this. Did you want to gamble? Id say for the possible gain here its not worth it. If its a bit bigger stack or you can easily take the hit then i would have been tempted.

Hand 9.
Now here its the same thing only the benefit outweighs the loss here i think. Id have tried to get him all in by pushing over the top buts that my super aggro preflop play. Id argue that the hit wouldnt really cripple you but the win would be a nice move up.

Hand 12.
i dont think i would have bet the flop, im scared of big hands coming in behind me here even though ive caught the flop and your not pushing a drawer off that flop. You definately shouldnt have called the push. I'd have put him high cards with the flush draw.

Hand 14.
With your stack im doing exactly the same thing

Hand 15.
You won, what a 1/4 of your stack in blinds? dont knock it.

Hand 16.
Ok you probably wanted to take the pot down earlier. If he calls for a river flush good look to him ill take the made hand every time. Especially short stacked. If someone with overcards calls that then they need their head checking, and their holes plugged, unless they have a huge stack.
I'd have played it like that. You needed the chaser at this stage and were always ahead in the hand i feel.

Hand 17.
Marginal. probe bet that flop. Only hand that calls probably beats you. Then check it down. Your stack is big enough for 300~ probe here to take it down.

Hand 18.
Rule one/two of mtt.
1) survival.
2)Put your chips in the middle when you have the best hand, not when you might have.
Ok you lost your raise, but nice to see you dont get married to overcards. Good.

Hand 19.
Check it!!!!!!!! min raise it whateva but dont push it

Hand 20.
Gotta call. Not a lot going to beat you and i doubt hes limping a monster pre flop.

Hand 21.
Whats wrong with that? Even if hes come you with whateva ive got a made hand im calling. Only AA, KK QQ really beats you here and im not sure all those hands would reraise you here. But the flop is golden.

Hand 24.
I want to see that flop. And i want to see if overcard blank then its bye bye for him. Got to call at least. Again why not consider going over the top of him its only a 4xbb raise, your a big stack and its aggressive. Especially if they arent calling your steals.

Hand 27.
Good play. Look at the situation. You have a nice stack. No need to play marginal situations. You would only like a jack high flop so just fold it. the right play in this situation.

Hand 30.
I think in mtt the gap theory applies a lot more to the play so occasionally try this. Imo its good aggression and how i like to play. With a decent stack you can steal decent blinds by really using this sort of hand. with limpers before hand id push the stack in and steal some extra chips knowing it was probably a coin flip if called as well.

Hand 31.
Id like to see any flop limping with two face cards. Better than trying to play connectors and drawing hands etc. Positionally its prob a good fold, yet you could again get aggressive and try to steal with this. Maybe a little too aggro.

hand 36.
I think id try to steal with that. You have a decent chance post flop anyway and a genuine hand is going to prob reraise you anyway so you'll know to get outta dodge.

Hand 37.
Maybe limp. Again if your prepared to gamble and get aggro u can play the gap theory and raise push etc. Its not orthadox but its sure difficult to call for those behind you.

Hand 39.
I think no matter whther you were stealing or had a genuine hand when that flop comes down noone is going to believe you hit it. If you have a big overpair then its bye bye but their i think your check was a good move not a weak one. And anyway if i had an overpair id have checked that flop too hoping for action.

Hand 42.
Thats good solid aggro play.
If he called form mp there is no way he likes a push behind him. If he calls id say both that you have a better hand and that its a bad call to be making. I would always push it though, dont raise becasue he might call that, just push. carefully timed you can pick up more than just the blinds with this sort of play.

Cant see anything else.
Ok from what i saw your pretty good. Few pointers though. Im pretty aggro, especially pre flop and dont mind an early coin flip. If you look down at two face cards or a pair in any position try and limp. Obviously try to get in a raised pot if you can with a pp, obviously with face cards you need a strong hand not a dominated QJ etc
Also, with position think about pushing over the top of an opponent when you have a pp. Yes its dangerous but it can also be very profitable. Not too often and probably not to the same opponent. With limpers its a great way to pick up more than the blinds. Limpers either want to see a flop or are very strong and your getting busted anyway. By pushing you ask them how much they really like there hand, and at this level they wont like their connectors and other rubbish much. But i thought your play was good these are just pointers for more aggro play if you are prepared to take the risk.
Looking at how you did (to where i can see) you won one hand that made your tourney go on, where the guy chased his flush. That sorta hand either makes or breaks you a lot. I try if i can to put people in a position where they proably know its a coin flip situation (eg pushing over the top with pps) if someone calls then admire that but rememebr that that is the way to get itm imo. You need at some point to win a coin flip that really makes ur stack.

#58-I couldnt sleep after how badly I played this hand....I tried to
trap being 6 handed...and also wanted to avoid an A if it fell....I was
so mad afterwards for not reraising...that pot would have been mine, and
If I did still loose I would have felt much better about it. Also,
just curious since he had a giant stack, was his call on the flop correct
or not? Should I have pushed AI to protect my hand? Just curious if I
took a bad beat or played it terrible post-flop as well.

Also I knew he hit his flush on the turn...just knew it...was I
committed praying for my 4 outs? Or should I have folded and been severly
crippled? I felt I was committed after the flop action.

Again id probe bet it. You can beat anyone who calls with twos and if some1 has the set just lay down. Its such a dangerous flop that only the set probably calls a probe bet.

Gotta disagree with you here. I think the not being pot committed quote deals more with hands like AJos where you make a play at the pot preflop get called and nothing hits and someone who you know has you beat puts you all-in. Unless the flop did come out with an A there is absolutely no way he should even be remotely thinking about just calling this flop. There are only 12 players left - we are super late in the tourney - now is not the time to be thinking can I fold a monster? I agree it's doubtful the big stack is gonna fold here cuz he's probably assuming he has 12 outs so it's 50/50 at the flop. Then again losing this hand does hurt - it halves his stack. That's a big deal. So he might, just might fold this. But there is no way you can put him on a flush draw here - he very easily has a two over hand here which you are dominating and very unlikely has an 8. The push is totally fine.

A call is out of the question. Can you raise the size of the pot to see if he really does have a draw and make him pay to catch, sure. But, honestly, that's more ring game theory with this hand than late in a tourney theory IMO.

You say the 5K bet is an ad for a draw. So you just call a bet that gives the draw pot odds??? When did the correct play for getting flush draws out become a call?? I think you're on a draw, you're betting less than 1/3 of the pot, so since that saves me chips in the long-run if you do catch I'll just let you do that. No way Jose. Take the jock off, let those cojones come out and play this hand like it's meant to be played. If you do end up losing, you lost with dignity.

Given his chip stack and how many players are left in this tourney, he had two options for playing this hand: 1) reraise preflop, or 2) call and then raise this mofo as long as there is no A on the flop. He shoulda pushed the flop but in the longrun he decided to go with #2 and got bit. But this is definitely one of those don't focus on the results hand - focus on the play. Hindsight is clouding your view of how this hand shouldbe played.

Big stack probe bets the flop. Heres my thinking on this. If hes raised preflop you have to assume he has highish cards or a pp, i dont think he has a pp here or he would have hit the flop hard knowing he has something. Therefore why probe instead of really hitting the flop? Because hes drawing id suggest. Thats just my read of the situation. Second If bob just calls the probe bet and a scare card appears hes commited about 20K chips total, its a lot (1/3rd stack?) but not crippling. If he pot bets the flop anyway he still has 12K chips left. That is not pot commited. he can fold to any bet and know that within 15 odd hands but probably 10 he has to find some sort of hand or situation where he can push. Yes hes short stacked but never pot commited with 3/4bbs left imo.
I accept im not suggesting an orthodox play here in giving the drawer good odds to draw, but i would have read the probe bet as a draw, thought about his stack and been pretty certain he would have called regardless of me pushing and played it safe. What im suggesting is reading the situation and making an action based on a situational read. Im not trying to be clever or use hindsight im saying wait for a better oppertunity. He can afford even pot betting the flop to fold this hand when scare cards appear.

Yes Miffed...the second to last hand was a mad call. I was upset I was caught with my hand in the cookie jar...but I had so few chips left, I geuss I gave up. Of course I was pleasantly surprised to see what he had.....I thought I was beat making that call...but for the last 4k of my chips I was thinking Ill just try and catch a K.

Last hand.......If i just flat call that flop...he could be holding any 2 random cards making a weak rep at the flop. Then maybe he could semi-bluff the turn when the scare card hits making me fold the winning hand.

I believe that pushing the flop was the best option...possibly making him fold, and getting my chips in when I was a favorite, although i was less of one than I thought at the time...........But I do see the arguments for how u suggest.

But thank you so much for all your comments so far, I will read, re-read and re-re-read them in order to plug up some holes...I feel that I'm slowly becoming an okay MTT player, and I am glad to see you saw some promise in there........

Yeah...there is a big argument for playing that hand a little weaker in that situation....especially since the big money was rolling around quick. But oh well....Ill get another shot. Maybe if I had a better read on that opponent.....but he was respecting all my raises so I had no reason to believe he would chase like that...........

Even if you put him on a draw you are at worst 50/50. At best you have this hand absolutely dominated. You aren't going to get a much better opportunity than this.
