Default All In First Hand of Tourney

    G'day everyone,

I have been reading posts on this site for some time but this is my first actual post. I was a bit angry last night when I saw this happen.

It was the first hand of a $5 + $0.50 Sit N Go at Pokerroom. Blinds were $10-20. UTG1 raised to $100. UTG2 called. Fold. Next guy raises All In. Fold Fold and then he gets a caller. Blinds fold and UTG1 and 2 both fold. Nothing unusual yet as I often see people all in pre-flop on first hand of tournament.

However, when they turn their cards over the initial raiser has Q5o and the caller has J6o.

This to me seemed like an obvious 'set-up' so that one of these two would be a big chip leader. Do you agree or am I just being paranoid? Does it happen often and is there anything that sites can do to combat this. I mean, I have seen some ridiculous pushes but this is by far ths worst.

PS. I got busted out in 5th position and this guy was still in and a big chip leader. He had played very well and very 'proper' (textbook) ever since this opening hand.

It's the lowest level of real money you can play at pokerroom. Many of the players are awful and will go all in on the first few rounds just to get either a chip lead or get out and try again. I very much doubt it was any sort of collusion. How did the one who won play after doubling up?

If you strongly suspect collusion report the two players.

He played very well after doubling up. Pretty tight aggressive.

I was just curious. It just seemed suspicious to me thats all.

Assume for a second that it was collusion do you think that this sort of tactic would be profitable considering that it costs 2 buy ins??

    Obviously your payoffs would be:
    1st +$14
    2nd +$4
    3rd -$1

Anything else and you are -$11

Start playing a different site....those payouts seem low.

Some people are just dumb i think. May have been collusion but the amount of times i'v seen equally dumb stuff happen would lead me to think they just suck. It's not uncommon for me or a friend of mine to Push AA/KK opening hand of a low buy SnG because of how often some nut wants to "coinflip" with rags

I just can't get my head around people scamming a game with a 50 dollar total prize pool. I guess if you made a LOT of counterfeit ones...

It is an interesting question, tho - if you could rebuy in an SNG and get twice the chips (for twice the price) would you do it?

my thoughts are that Pokerroom just has the worst players on the planet (maybe Absolute contends), playing at the lowest buy-in. You see some very erratic play and I don't think it is from people playing particularly "deliberately" loose, its just simply a case of they don't know what they're doing.

Swtich to a proper site, like Pokerstars or I hear Ultimate Bet is ok

If it is collusion it is probably the worse one that can be done because it is way too obvious, however you can report them, because if they do it then its probably done consistantly.

Anyway I think it is a bad tactic to follow, at 50/30/20 prize distibution you need to get 2nd to make 40% on your money or 1st to make any serious profit.

I dont think starting with twice the chip count gives you more then twice the chance to win it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it
