Need help with something that seems to keep happening, missing the cash 0 to 10 spots out. Last night 180 pay there is 185 left. I'm at around 6K, blinds are at 300/600. I figure I'll tighen up wait for 5 more to drop out, get my buy-in back and then start moving again.
Next hand JJ in LP. one or two limpers, I raise to 1600, all fold but player to my right. Flop come 6,10,7 rainbow, she checks and I push AI. There's a long pause then she starts typing ... "only need one card for str8...hmm...... CALL. Turn comes K, river is A, she turns over A8 clubs.
I bubble out at 182. She had about 10k at start of hand.
Good or bad PUSH by me?
Good or bad CALL by her? ( i would not have called...but I hate gut shots )

Bad call by her for sure, because she can't know the A is a clean out. If she knew for sure... I'm too lazy to do the math but it would be very marginal at best.

I won't fault this but don't forget most of the other players in the tourney are thinking the same thing. I went out of three tourneys this weekend within 20 spots of the money (once two away just like you here), one with over 1K entrants, and I was fine with it because I made plays that moved me closer to the FT.

You made the right play! How long can you wait? I mean is limping ITM a major goal? If so...fold until you do just that.

There are some, no, many people that would actually fold this to limp ITM. But your play here clearly indicates that just isn't going to cut it....which is the much better decision!!

Ditto and Ditto. I actually would have just pushed preflop, and I don't like the less than 3xBB raise. But pushing the flop was a definite and her call was just a 7 out (tops) chase. P.s. if you want to make the big money - 5 to go to the money is the time to become more aggressive than you normally are not the other way around. Tightening up just guarantees your entry fee back and very unlikely to make more.

Thanks ...just was starting to second guess myself. Whats with the chatting during the AI. that surprised me. Don't most site disable chat for AI's.
