I'd fold just because you aren't that heavily pot committed... I can't see KK or AA limping at this level, but then again, I don't play these stakes.

Do you think someone hit a set? Sweet and sour limped early with 22 or 55 or 10-10? Seems possible. Do people at this level play A-10?

i think half the time your good here to A10 K10 the other half its a set. No way its aces or kings you would have been popped. I would tough to muck on that board but the pot is small and its early.

    Re-raise to... i dunno, maybe 500.

Put the squeeze on the first raiser who should think "sandwiched!" and fold out

And put the re-raiser who probably has TPTK to the sword.

Worst case scenario is the set, but I would push here, fo'sho'. It's a perfect flop for your high pair, really.

    What happened IRL?

if you raise to 500 you are tied to the pot, no reason and having a crippled stack, i either push this or dump it.

I don't see why a set doesn't check to you on that board, I'd be more worried about a junky two pair, someone gambling with a suited brunson or something. If one has AA KK they have played it so weird I'm OK paying it off. I'd guess TP for the blind and lower PP for UTG. Push is my play most of the time, you might even gamble on a call and see what they do on the turn... or if the blind re raises you must be beat.

I would definitely re-raise to about 550. If someone has a set, they played it pretty clever by not doing a standard check/raise or check/call trap.

But since it is so early, I would believe my Qs are best and the re-raise is an A/T holder....I should add that I would have raised pre-flop to about 100-120 to protect my Qs and weed out a fishy A/x player or small pp.

tough hand indeed... and so i'd take the safe route and fold it. you're not pot committed, and its way too early to get involved with a short handed pot like that. plus you have no reads, and you don't know what ladyweb is going to do. there's no calling there either because if a K or A hits the board, they'll be raising your passive ways.

    I don't get that.

You probably have the best hand, so fold it to a pot raise and min re-raise? i can see your argument in that it's early in the tourney and you have no reads but... don't you look for places to get a chip lead from?

This looks like one of them, to me. It's a great flop texture for people to get clever with and start bluffity-bluffin'

All-in is a possibility, but it's just not how I would play it here, as i think it would look like a bluff and either be called by both, or get raised into again.

    Worst case scenarios:
i go all-in and they have trips. I'm (probably) out.
i raise, they re-raise and i think "okay you got me". I have what, 500 left and i'm still in it.

WHOA shit i just noticed you are playing $100+$9 buy in! My advice probably holds far less water now... i was assuming a $10+$1 Fish Factor there. Still, i think there's a good chance.

Yes and that's another reason for folding! I doubt these players will bluff so hard in a $100 tourney after the first couple of hands. now the blinds are at 10/15, so why take chances with an overpair? One of them can have a two pair, trips, or a stronger overpair; or an overcard that hits on the turn/river. QQ is good, but i wouldnt put all my confidence in it on this hand. save the chips for when it matters most.

    EDIT:

If you 'have the best hand' wouldn't that be a great situation? :P you contradict yourself my friend!

    Yeah.

I think my aim with a $500 raise would be to get them to fold without putting my tourney at risk (unlikely now i see it is higher stakes and theoretically better starting hands) or to get one of them out, and the genuine strong hand to put me all in.

i think basically i'm saying (in a convoluted way ) that i fancy the hand here and would stand with it, although... with my bankroll... if i were to enter a $100 buyin tourney and was facing an all-in on the third or so hand i would probably be looking for a cloth to clean up my wee wee after i wet myself.

Can you say scared money? I knew you could.

Queensnogood.....that will be my next screen name Chris - do ya like it. No way to call since ladyweb is almost guaranteed to push if you simply come along.
One of them almost certainly has A-T with the backdoor wheel and the other probably has a set, I just don't see 2-pair being a real possibility this early at this level....I would roll my eyes, shake my head and muck the queens.
I would then be a little pissed when one turned over A-T and the other turned over J-J....but that is how it goes sometimes.

Hey aces, I agree with Lori...

Muck em, I think sweetandsour hit a set.

He's raising a set before original raiser even gets to act, with no flush and marginal str8 draw? Explain why. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just don't see why that is your first instinct. And how is this a small pot? There's 600 chips in there.

I don't get the posts that seem to be assuming people at 100s are not BR'd properly. Trust me, people are NOT less likely to bluff at the higher levels. They are perhaps more likely to raise with something like 99 or AT here to find out where they are rather than calling.

Value bet/build a pot....get a bit more money in the pot by min raising - without scaring out the original raiser. If I hit a set that is what I would do there.
I don't think people are more or less likely to bluff at higher levels of buy-in...but I do think they may be less likely to bluff off a whole bunch of thier chips during the first level of blinds. Although, I have played several $100+9 tournies at UB and BoDog, and there are plenty of donks in the early going...I don't see why Party would be any different....heck even the $215 on Stars can be a little surprising during the first hour

I would fold, but I'm not certain it's the right play. You are either way ahead or way behind.

I think if you consider yourself one of the better players, you should fold. If you are over your head in a $100 SNG, gamble and push.

Note that I am not folding because I think I am better... I am folding because I am gutless. I am CORRECT in folding IF I am better than the field...

I think they both have a pair of tens and have probally put you on high cards AK AQ even KQ - so i would move allin and be happy to take the pot there or get called and hope my hand holds up.

It is possible that sweetnsour has JJ with the way he has played but if he had AA KK and was slow playing then why would he suddenly come alive now - not a scary flop for AA KK - surely he would just call and see what the original raiser was going to do.
  18. #18
I disagree, but I see your line. IMO a re raise here guarantees the pre flop raiser will fold (unless over pair) but a call opens up the chance he sticks around with a PP, AT or just decides to try and buy it with overs. Raising the set here puts you in a spot where unless the SB here has TPGK+ there is little chance you'll make more money, unless you get lucky and he makes trips or two pair.

Whatever happened I hope we get to see a show down.

another point if i was sweetnsour and hit my set there i would call and be glad to give another card and build the pot or hope that the original raiser was going to come over the top.
