    Hydroseeds: ... ?

I thought he might have AJ, but he bet out on the flop and didn't reraise after my raise.

Should the call scare me? Is the check on the turn weakness or a trap?

Seems like weakness to me, for sure throw in another decent sized bet here.

I definitely bet out again on the turn

if he flat calls, i check the river.
If he pushes over, I contemplate folding.

It looks like weakness but be careful! He might be doing a play that I love doing, the bet, check, bet play. Dan Harrington mentions it briefly in HOH2. Say you have TT and you put in a standard raise and a guy with position on you calls. Now lets say the flop is KT2. Now you put in a 1/2 pot bet and the guy calls you and has a K. Now if you check the turn it looks like you were doing a continuation bet and are giving up on the pot. From my experience online, your opponent will almost always bet at it and you can choose to just smooth call and bet the river (really confuses your opponent) or check raise accordingly.

Now looking at your hand, and looking specifically at parvo, that's almost exactly how i'd play JJ in that situation. I'd call a 4x BB raise PF and when I flopped a set and the A came on the flop I could be pretty confident at least one of my opponents had an A and would pay me off. I'd feeler bet the flop, call a raise, and check the turn, pretending to be weak.

If I was in your spot with AK, I'd check/call the turn and river.

The board is looking pretty gross and I wouldn't want to commit many more chips with just a pair of aces. I could definatly see parvo having JJ there and if so, you want to lose the least chips possible.

Of course there's a chance he's a complete donk and has a pair of Jacks or a weak A or something. Since it's still level 1 and you probably have no reads yet, that's another reason to check/call so you get to see his hand and note what he has. If you bet the turn and he raises, you're going to have to lay it down.

    Just my opinion.

What happened in the hand by the way?

Edit: The reference to this play in HOH2 occurs on page 108.

I check the turn. You don't want the board to get out of control. If he checks again on the river, bet 1/3 of the pot. If he bets I would call.

Any reads on the guy ?

He raised preflop 4BB, so without a read I would put him on the following range
AA,KK,AK,AQ,QQ,JJ,TT, maybe 99, AJ, AT if its low limits

His bet on the flop may be a continuation bet, but the call on your reraise indicates that he either had a monster or a hand he is not sure of
That pretty much rules out KK,QQ,TT,99
Out of the possible range of hands AQ is the only one you beat, AK you tie, and you lose to any made set or AJ, AT, I would probably check, and call a river bet if it is not too high.

My gut feeling is that he has AK as well

Re raise pre flop would help.

If he checks again on the river, bet 1/3 of the pot. If he bets I would call.
