Default I blew it huge, any advice

    Hi,

Last night I played in a $5 SNG at Paradise Poker (1,000 starting chip stack) and with 5 players left I had 3,800 chips; then it all went downhill and I blew the whole thing.

Please critique the following hands that led to my demise...

I did the exact same thing twice last night, and it totally put me on tilt leaving me 0/8 for the night.

What I learned is just because you have a big stack doesn't mean you should be playing much different than if you had the small stack. Put pressure on the smaller stacks when the opportunity arises, but you don't need to be going out of your way to bully. You don't need to be calling down hands with middle or bottom pairs.

Like you I was getting killed by obvious dominant pocket pairs, while I called down with crap. Don't donate your hard earned stack.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but having a big stack just gives you more license to open the betting with more average hole cards and to call down desperate coinflips from the shortstacks- you can survive if their Q10o beats your AJs.

Overall. Very very loose. Were you just playing big stack bully?

1st hand a min raise from UTG is always suspicious. You fell into his trap.

4th hand maybe you should of been big stack bully here. Calling flop/turn is very weak. Either fold and save chips or raise and take the pot

5th hand. 6x the BB raise? Raise 3x-4x so you aren't as committed to call.

1- Dont give up chips cheaply like this, you worked hard to get em and should hold onto them.
2- Someone going allin against you is expecting a call, especially after you reraised.
3- You aren't enough of a big stack to bully this much, if it was a multi with an extra 5k chips then maybe.
4- Bully with your chips when you sense weakness not strength.
5- It's fine to raise if your first in and you want to bully, but if you meet resistance be cautious.
5- DO NOT RERAISE just cause you have chips with 10-J off. If anything, call - see a flop - if he checks or bets weak THEN use some chips to steal.
6- Read Dav & Rippy's guides to SNGs

Hand 1 - if you had even stacks, this would be a meh but do able play. With him being SS you have to assume he's coming over the top here. IF you're going to make a play AI makes a lot more sense.

Hand 2 - if alarm bells are going off in hand one seeing a SS min raise, KLAXONs should be going off here. This guy has a hand.

    Hand 3 - don't min raise.

Hand 4 - flop call is marginal at best (even if you make two pair, if it's a spade where are you?). The turn is worse. The river... I just dunno. A on board, 4 to straight, a pre flop raiser who has continued to bet - as said above, if you are for some reason convinced you're best, re raise. You're giving chips to hands that beat you and giving free cards to draws against you (which, BTW, are pretty big draws when you're looking at 2 4s).

It's also important to think about how bad this makes you look to the rest of the table. They all think you're a fish now, it's tighten up time.

    Hand 5 - fine.

Hand 6 - again, don't min raise. You don't want to encourage action with K7. If you think 3x commits you, push or fold.

Were you on tilt or what?

    Didn`t like hands #4, 5 and 6.

    You definitely blew it huge.

It`s nice having chips and being able to make moves here and there.

But don`t do it every hand, specially in early levels. Sure, bad luck you faced such monsters like AA/KK. But, even some non-pair hands would get you dominated here.

You want to bully. right. But don`t be blind. Most of the times, a re-raise is what it appears to be. Respect it, at least when you`re making a move. Don`t be a calling station, like that horrible hand with a pair of fours. Keep in mind that playing KXs is for flush purpose only. You should have fold at the flop bet.

Finally, Sit back and relax. Keep your stack for the later leves, when blinds are higher and players are more scaried.

Your play and hand selection were terrible. You called a raise with K4 suited and completely missed on the river and yet you still called the river bet??

Raising pre flop with QJ off suit is just loose play and if I am honest your play did not deserve to win this sit n go.
  8. #8
Simply put....you called raises and raised with hands you should only see flops with if you were the BB and the pot was unraised.
-It seemed like a good idea at the time-

Comical level of aggression. If someone with 1/3 of your chips raises a little bit and then re-raises all in when you go over the top of him, that's a good fold. Not only that, you shouldn't re-raise a short stack with weak shit like JTo and KTo. What are you hoping they have? When they open the pot with a raise, they are almost always signalling their intention to go all in, and the fact that they aren't all in already means they probably have a decent hand. In this case, more than decent, but you can expect most of the time they'd at least have a pocket pair or two face cards. You should have a pocket pair yourself or AK/AQ if you're going to insist on putting them all in. Especially the guy in hand #1. I find your play there just baffling. You threw 800 chips in the trash with JTo after your opponent raised and re-raised. At what point do you pick up on the signals he's sending out that his hand is better than yours - and in all probability, much, much better?
