I just got my 2nd biggest win by chopping 1st/2nd in one, so *thumbs up*.

You do need a lot of luck, though.

I've played a few. I think it may have sharpened my position play. It also makes you make reads quicker.

Just realized I was in the S&G tab. Forget the biggest win part, but I play turbo S&G's as well - I'm good in push/fold mode, plus its the fastest way to get return on your money with each one going quickly.

    That's funny sh it, Gabe

I don't mind, as long as you get at least something early you can take it a long way. Have to be decent at stealing those blinds though, a lot hinges on pre-flop play.

yeah, stealing blinds is crucial. Now I'm better at stealing in the longer tourneys. It's like prowling.

Bad cards early sucks. Good cards early is fantastic. Well that's obvious for any SnG just seems more prevalent in a Turbo.

It's just easier to come back from a bad start in a 10 min blind SnG than in a Turbo, but it's definately doable.

Bob, do you think that PP tourneys are crapshoots? They are even faster than the Pstars turbos...
  14. #14
    Yes PP SnG's are horrible.

Well good cards, but good play helps too

What I find (atleast at the stakes I play at) for turbos is alot of fish play it like a crapshoot because they wanna be ahead early with the blinds: Get lucky or fire up another table. If you catch a good hand early, you're doubling up pretty quick on these guys.

I just played a 6+.50 SnG a couple minutes ago. Second hand 1 guy pushes all in with JJ, guy calls with KK and doubles up. Probably not something that happens alot at the higher stakes, but the guy with KK was in a comfy position even when the blinds started getting up there.

If not, well sound poker can get you there too.

The other point was losing 1/3 of your stack in the first 20 minutes is a bigger problem than in a normal SnG.

I could easily fold every hand for 20 minutes at the 15+1s on stars and beat them.

Me too. I'm usually tight until around that level. Main point was that a early chip stack may help out alot more in a Turbo than a normal SnG. That's all.

    Default That is why

This is why hand selection is key for the turbo SNG's.Even with 1500 chips you make a mistakes and you're hurting.

As for Party SNG's I hardly bother. Not really worth it at all with 800 chips and the every 10 hand rule.

Its funny how some of the best, if not most of the best, sng players reside at PP...

    My 2 cents:

I play the 6+.50 and 15+1 on stars.

The 9 people Sng turbo are nice, you dont have to gamble too much, people are pretty loose and you can fold the first 4 levels without really hurting your stacks.
There is much less bubble play then the normal Sngs and they usually end after about 40-45 minutes, when the blinds are like 300-600, which is 10% of the average stack, so they are not too much of a crapshoot.

The 18 people has a lot more variance, because if you play too tight early on you will reach the final table very short stacked if you dont catch good cards, that is because you will play a relatively long duration with 5-6 people in the table. So if you did not double up early you have to steal blinds and play more marginal hands.

The 45 people 6+.5 at stars are crapshoot. It is pretty easy to reach the final 18, but from there on it is pretty much push or fold game - however they are a lot of fun.
I played 56 of them, with 40% ROI

with 5 minute blinds there is no blind steal.

    It's all in.
