3-table SNG

    Default 3-table SNG

Thanks to everyone who read through my other one:
    http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...hlight=#150226

Here's a 3-table SNG that played out pretty much the way all of my SNGs do nowadays. i.e.
-i feel like i'm playing pretty tight, but then I look at the session stats and I always seem to be around 24% of flops.
-i read DavSimon's stuff, esp. the part about when and where to steal/bluff. there's just one of those in here (#41), since i didn't make it to the very late stages.
-i outlast the loose/foolish players through discipline, not taking unnecessary risks, and get somewhat-far-along with a pretty short stack. and I think "it's alright, just need a good double up spot and I'll be in the running"
-i fail to double up and go out instead.

something's definitely missing. this has been going on awhile. any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

#7 - UTG I dont like limping QJs unless I know the table is very weak.

#8 - Just fold, you can defend your big blind later when it really makes a difference. Even if you catch top pair, it might not be good (outkicked)

#13 - To me, it seems a bit passive. If your not comfortable playing with Ax when an ace flops, just fold them.

#16 - Did you have a read on him? I dont think I like calling the 8xbb raise with AJs, especially with 1 caller.

Raise the turn. Get some information about your opponent. By just calling, your just walking in the dark; theres no way to get to know information about your opponents hand. If you raise and he reraises, you might be able to get out of the hand without as many chips lost.

#17 - Another Ax hand I would lay down. Your in a bad position, and its a waste of chips if your only going to actively play this hand with 2 pair or a flush.

#19 - A little risky to be making a continuation bet with 4 opponents, but its likely they aren't holding onto a jack.

#26 - I don't like limping AK, ever. I was re-reading HoH earlier and I think he said with AK and AQ you should raise 80% and call 20% to keep your opponents guessing. Online, it doesnt matter. Only being 60% to win against 2 live cards, your hand value is almost dead after 4 others are seeing the flop. If UTG limped AA, so be it.

#36 - With only 13BB, I dont like seeing a flop here with suited connectors, especially with bad position. Screw pot odds.

#45 - I like it. Were you pushing any flop?

#53 - I think you need to take a chance and call here. You already have in more than half of your stack in the pot. I would only fold if I was 90% sure the bigstack had me beat. Its hard to come back with 650 chips and 75/150 blinds.

    my advice :

work on reading your opponents more. observe every hand and take notes on their betting patterns and they hands they limp/raise with. I'm getting the feeling you have no idea where you stand in a lot of these HH's. Think about what your opponent could have and don't just focus so much on yours.

AJsooooted. Fold preflop. And it's a clear fold.

I can just not believe how passive you got.

And action confuses me. MP raises and SB and Hero call and MP dissappears?

I dont understand your second AK hand at all.

I hate your BB defense on hand 36.

    Instapush preflop on hand 42.

Raise to 400 MAX preflop at 150 blinds.I raise 375.(A2o hand)

I often muck Q8s from the SB.

ATs hand makes me laugh. If you're seriously going to raise 600 preflop, just open push. You are CLEARLY afraid to play a flop here and you would probably get blown off by a stop and go anyway.

86s hand is a wierd one.

My advice. Play on party OR play the turbos. Your post flop game really upsets me. :/

I'm not trying to be argumentative but this thread bums me out. These all seem like straightforward plays to me.
Yeah I'm passive with my paired A5 when I have no redraws (#13). When CO checks behind the turn I like my ace again.
AJs strikes me as a pretty good hand 3-way for a raise, esp. after 3 folds to the MP2. I'm a little worried that a cold-caller of such a PFR has an overpair, so I just call down. Bets any bigger would've chased me off. I think that's justified passiveness.
Likewise A5s from SB with a minraise and a cold caller. I feel good holding Axs versus weak PF raising/cold calling. Easy to get away from, and the pot can get big if I hit.
#42 perplexes me. versus a short stack and 2 big stacks limping I should push ATo? I don't get it. I'm hoping for a flip versus whichever one calls me. (I'm getting called, there's no doubt, is there?). For kicks I ran a sim: ATo versus 77 and KJs is the dog 30% versus 32% (the sevens) versus 37%(KJs). I'd rather hit my ace or ten cheap and see if they're still excited.

"Raise to 400 MAX preflop at 150 blinds." ... I hadn't heard that. I almost always do 3 or 4 BB and I vary it with my mood basically.

Last but not least: the 86. I'm not 90% sure I'm beat. I'm 100% sure I'm beat. With an AI and my raise, it's clear I have the 8 (I'm actually repping A8 or an overpair at that point) and the big stack AI over the top of that says "I've got the three, it's all good, short stack is out." Sucks that it turned out that way, but I can't imagine a clearer fold.

As TJ says, it's hard to come back with 650 chips, but it's even harder to come back with zero chips.

    Thanks again, guys. Doldrums.

Why did you ask for advice when you already thought you made the correct play on each of these hands? I know your the season 1 winner of the gauntlett and I'm sure you have way more experience and knowledge than I do. But at least respect the fact that we spent some time trying to give advice on your game. You may not agree with it, but at least respect it and be open to it.

I do respect it and I thank you; what bums me out is that I'm apparently playing the vast majority of my hands all wrong, i.e. my instincts suck. Still.

So I laid out my thought process on some of the ones where your advice surprised me. Wasn't trying to say "I'm right, you're wrong" but "Why am I wrong?" if you get my meaning.

The reason why you don't want to raise more than 400 at a 150 BB is for reasons of pot control.

When you raise to 400 and someone says "alright lets play" you're still not commited to the pot. A continuation bet doesn't break you and the pot on the turn and river will be smaller so you can bluff at it less expensively.

In HE everyone usually misses the flop and it's really difficult to tell when AJhigh is best. So you usually spend your time thinking "Is the other guy putting chips in the pot? If he is, can I take them away from him without a showdown? Do I have enough chips?" If you're putting too much in preflop, the answer to the question "Do I have enough chips to bluff him off his hand without showdown?" is almost always No.

Here is the strat I'm currently using at the 15+1s and 22s.

First 3 or 4 levels: Fold.

When everyone's stack is around 10-20 bets: Use any chips I have beyond 10 bets to get my stack to 20 bets. If my stack is 10 or fewer, go AI until I can get like 2.5~3 bets. (When you have 1250 chips at 100 BB, I will raise with anything in the CO to 250 as my last action on the hand)

When everyone's stack is closing in on 10: If you're less than 10 bets, go AI more than everyone else at the table. (within reason) Don't super LAgg your AIs. I'm still looking for hands with showdown value. But these hands usually look like K5s from the button.I've usually spent the entire SnG developing a tighter than life image ESPECIALLY from the SB even when it's folded to me so that I can go buckwild at this stage and not catch any heat from hands like Ax or KTo. With more than 10 bets, I'm raising from the CO with my excess to try and build 20 bets.

When the blinds are enormous: Go AI more than anyone else. Pic spots more than hands.

This is the strat I use to 6-8 table SnGs. I have completely omitted post flop play and I still can beat these tournies. And I think one of your bigger leaks is your post flop play in general. If you can perfect your play preflop you can beat low level sngs. All you gotta do is focus on one street. As you move up, you can add in the rest.
