    Default Pushing with AJs

$10 SNG,8 players left.Blinds 50/100,just about everyone is even including me.I look down and see AJs and decide to push-either steal the blinds or double up.Larger stack calls me and shows AKo.I miss my Jack and that's all she wrote.

Am I supposed to put him on a better Ace-hand?Or was he also taking a chance presuming I was on a steal with overs? If I had a PP or KK/AA he was cooked yet he called anyways.Who's right/wrong or is this just gambling for both of us?Thoughts anyone?

PF, how do you put someone else on a better AX (unless you're reraising of course).

    If I'm the other guy:

At worst, I'm looking at a race. I don't put you (the original AQ raiser) on KK or AA because you'd most likely raise rather than push. More likely than not, you pushing will get others to fold. You're trying to get me to fold. Therefore, I don't put you on either of these hands. For the remainder, I'm either slightly behind (vs. pp) or quite ahead. A call is possible. A call would be a gamble, but could be justified.

BTW, I think you made a major mistake preflop. You can try to steal the blinds without pushing AI, especially since I'm guessing you had a decent-size stack. IMO the only hands that will call will be the ones that can give you trouble.

I can see you're really have troubles understanding the forced action created by the increasing blinds.

As your stack gets smaller, you need to push more to buy the blinds. In many situations in sngs, I find myself pushing with hands like QTo. Significantly weaker than AJs. The frequency that my opponents wake up with a hand to call me with and how often that hand busts me does not outweigh the frequency that I buy the blinds and the move become +EV.

Without knowing stack position, table texture and actual position I can't tell you if AJs was a good push but I can promise you that in the other guys position, I will call all day and night with AKo and never once will "He might have AA or KK and have me fucked." cross my mind.

You really need to figure out how these tournies work. (I also think you were the guy who made the thread asking if you should fold the nut flush on the turn becuase the big stack might bust you.)

With AJ and 8 players in you will usually steal the blinds or bust.
8 players, you can expect calls from hand that dominated you:
AA, Ak, AQ, KK, QQ, JJ
And maybe with hands you will flip with - TT, 99

Dont expect calls from hands that you dominate

And I dont think blind stealing in this case (the blinds are pretty low)
    is worth it

At a party SNG, it'll be worth it. We need stack sizes and such.

Things needed in order to tell if you should push or not

How many people are at the table
Your stack size in terms of number of BBs
How many people are left after you
    What their stack sizes are
    Their calling ranges
    Least important, your cards.

wihtout all of those, you cant really tell.
